That’s a wrap on the first-ever Thrift Trap Roadshow!

Thank you to everyone who showed up with your dutifully-inherited oddities and let us figure out, together, if they were garbage or genius. Big thanks to @nightshadebar / @moonflowerbar, too, for hosting! 💗

Spoiler: five ‘appraisals’ done and in process, and every single one turned out to be genius in their own right. And the completed pieces on display? Walked right off the wall, save a couple (those are now online).

Equal parts art show, theater, and inheritance intervention — and honestly, better than we could’ve hoped for round one! That means the next one is in the works… 😉

Interested in something sooner? I’ve got a wide variety of pieces waiting for you online — link in my bio.

Next stop: Consignment Lounge [ @consignmentlounge ], this fall. Start thinking about your thrifted trash-turned-treasure now — the weird painting, the oddball print, the thing you inherited and never knew why. Bring it. We’ll figure out what it could become… together.

📍 Details soon.

what a charming show @shawnimals put together at @nightshadebar. upcycled paintings adorned with his whimsical signature characters. Affordable and stunning. Joyous, and in some instances nostalgic. What a #Chicago approach to use found materials from the alley or thrift shop and elevate into fun and fine art. He's also doing commissions with paintings you'd like revived and personalized and updated and improved.

#Thursday night is a miracle. #chicagoartist #streetart

Trash or treasure? Junk or genius? Yes.

Here’s your first look at the finished pieces hitting Thrift Trap Roadshow THIS Thursday — before and after, side by side, so you can see exactly what “unexpected masterpiece” actually means. Housewares are getting the same treatment too, so keep an eye out for those.

Eight new works, ready to take home Thursday. But that’s only part of the night — here’s what else is happening:

1. On-the-spot appraisals — bring in your own dutifully-inherited oddities and find out if they’re trash or treasure
2. Finished customs for sale — the eight pieces in this clip
3. Un-customized pieces on the wall, available for commission
4. See me paint one of my thrifted works live!

Heads up: only 10 commission slots per show — whether it’s one of the in-customized pieces off the wall or something you brought in. First come, first served!

Thrift Trap Roadshow is coming to @nightshadebar in the lower level of @moonflowerbar — bring in your weird, inherited art you don’t know why you still have, and find out what unexpected masterpiece it could become.

Eight, new upcycled thrift pieces for you to view. A bunch of un-customized paintings up for commission if you’re in the market. A live thrifted painting in progress. And this time, even a few housewares are getting the treatment!

Ready for fun “appraisals” of the art and/or objects you bring in for customization consideration? Are they garbage or genius… OR BOTH?!

📍 Nightshade, 4359 N Milwaukee, Chicago
📅 Thursday, July 30th, 7pm

🎨 I’m bringing my new event series Thrift Trap Roadshow to @nightshadebar!

What’s a Thrift Trap, you ask? Think Antiques Roadshow — but for mystery paintings, oddball decor, and whatever grandma left behind that nobody had the heart to throw out. Bring it to Thrift Trap Roadshow to get “appraised” — not for what it’s worth, but for the weird, glorious second life it deserves.

You can participate in 3 ways:

1. Take home original upcycled thrift art and objects I’ll be showing and selling at Nightshade.

2. Bring a thrifted painting or object you’d like me to customize. I’ll let you know what’s possible and what the cost might be!

3. Or just come hang, grab a drink, and watch me work on one of my upcycled thrift pieces.

📍 [Nightshade - 4359 N Milwaukee Ave (lower level), Chicago / Thurs July 30th @ 7pm] • Calendar it now! 🗓️
