„Greater Sandhill Crane“ Concept Exhibition -
including two site specific interventions and a scale modell.

The exhibition reveals the planned sculpture for the first time - an artwork we have been working on for two years. It is meant to be installed in 2027 at Pariser Platz in Stuttgarts Europe-District.

The sculpture “Greater Sandhill Crane” reveals the animalistic nature of the machine: like a giant bird, it leans toward people and engages with them.
Two new curved jib elements are added to the existing modular crane system.

In the urban landscape, the crane no longer locates a construction site. Instead the sculpture marks a new space for culture, interaction and community.

During the most important art fair, when collectors from all over the world flood the city of Basel
and the heavyweights of the gallery scene achieve record sales in the exhibition halls, the
Broken Gallery, together with its friends from Basel, presents works created at the academies
– still far removed from the art market. These are shown at a mobile exhibition stand in the
open air, at various changing locations. The booth is an exact replica of a standard Art Basel
exhibition stand: a small white cube. It will host frequent presentations by various artists, fea-
turing painting, performance, sculpture, and video screenings. The concept of mediation is
centered on motivated sales talks.
„Attacke der Retroavantgarde“ is a statement, a pseudo-radical announcement, and a sales
slogan all at once. The exhibition booth is a sculptural setting that brings art into the open air
and exposes it to daylight. It can be read as a symbol of both demarcation and participation.
The booth represents a counter-model to the air-conditioned, controlled, and exclusive atmo-
sphere of the exhibition halls. This intervention is a gesture that explores the tension between
avant-garde and commerce. It subtly yet pointedly invites reflection on the art market and the
role artists play – and could play – within it.
