Before We Grow LA, We Grow Inglewood, managing huge projects and managing talent, I was just a explorative student of the game working at @lasentinelnews @tasteofsoullafest . I started off at the front desk (adding prison subscriptions to the database and receiving lots of letters from the jailhouse 🙏🏽lol), went on to interview major talent like YG and Genuine, was featured on televised news networks, got my feet wet with social media marketing, designed Mayor Bass’ first electoral signage, worked with over 10 city and county departments, strategized with elected officials, and ultimately became the AR Accountant and Project Manager for the LA Sentinel Newspaper & Taste of Soul. I made lifelong friendships and discovered my unwavering passion for community organizing. To see the amount of talent and BLACK excellence that has walked into and come out of 3800 Crenshaw is truly an inspiration. Today, we celebrate the legacy of Danny J Bakewell, what he has built for LA culture and community, and his success in hosting the biggest party with a purpose that Cali has ever seen! It’s safe to say that I would not be where I am today without the wisdom and knowledge from Danny Bakewell Sr, Pam Bakewell, Danny Bakewell Jr, and the whole TOS team! I love you all- not just because we’re family, but for being an integral part of my journey to grow LA. RIP Miss Iris💐
