Had the chance to sing this beautiful Vietnamese traditional folk song, “Bèo Dạt Mây Trôi,” for the first time. The song is also known as “Drifting on the Water” on jazz guitarist Nguyen Le’s album.

The lyrics tell the story of a woman longing for her lover to return from a faraway place. But what makes this song so poetic to me is the way her longing is woven into images of duckweed drifting on the water, the falling moon, also bamboo trees swaying in the distance. A simple story but it's so beautifully written.

Hello my LA friends,

I’ll be visiting LA next week and performing with my trio at Sound Dhaba on July 29 at 7:30 PM. If you’re free, I’d love to invite you to come check out the music and hang out, it would mean a lot to see you there!

We’ll be playing my original compositions, arrangements of Vietnamese folk and pop songs, and some of our favorite jazz standards.

Hope to see you there!

Peace & Love,
Tri.
