One of the standout locations of the International Festival of Youth in Yekaterinburg was the ”Nevalyashki” (roly-poly toys) installation by the National Centre RUSSIA. Festival guests were invited to leave their own messages on the toys. Now, this stunning art piece will remain in Moscow.

Today, July 28, Russia marks the Day of the Baptism of Rus’, a holiday established in 2010 to commemorate one of the defining events in the country’s history. It’s a fitting day to look at the Monument to Vladimir the Great, standing in Borovitskaya Square right by the Moscow Kremlin.

Vladimir Svyatoslavich ruled as Grand Prince of Kiev from 980 to 1015. Before his conversion, he was known for consolidating the Kievan Rus’ territories through military campaigns and for erecting a pantheon of pagan gods in Kiev. Around 987–988, he was baptized at Chersonesus (in modern-day Crimea), reportedly as part of an alliance with the Byzantine Empire that included his marriage to Princess Anna, sister of Emperor Basil II. On returning to Kiev, he ordered the mass baptism of his people in the Dnieper River and had the pagan idols destroyed. This event, traditionally dated to 988, is regarded as the founding moment of Christianity across the Kievan Rus’ lands and shaped centuries of religious, cultural, and political development in the region.

The monument itself stands 17.5 meters tall, designed by sculptor Salavat Shcherbakov and unveiled on November 4, 2016. It was originally planned for Sparrow Hills but relocated after public objections over the impact on the viewing platform.

What is Eurasia Global? Here’s what happened at the 2026 edition.

The International Youth Forum Eurasia Global is one of Russia’s leading international youth platforms, bringing together young leaders, entrepreneurs, diplomats, volunteers, and changemakers from around the world to strengthen international cooperation, cultural exchange, and project development.

The 2026 edition, held from 23–28 June in Orenburg, Russia, focused on expanding the global network of International Friendship Clubs, initiatives designed to foster long-term collaboration between young people across different countries. Rather than simply hosting discussions, the forum emphasized practical workshops, leadership development, and creating sustainable international partnerships. (IYES FOUNDATION)

This year’s forum welcomed approximately 160 participants from Russia and dozens of partner countries, including representatives from Zambia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast,Senegal, Cameroon, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Colombia , Ecuador , Palestine , and South Africa. Delegates included youth leaders, community organizers, entrepreneurs, media professionals, students, and government representatives working in the field of international cooperation. (Intermol)

Throughout the six-day programme, participants exchanged ideas on youth diplomacy, innovation, volunteerism, culture, education, and international collaboration, while developing projects aimed at strengthening ties between nations beyond the forum itself.

Eurasia Global continues to position itself as a platform where young people from diverse backgrounds can build lasting partnerships, share solutions to global challenges, and promote dialogue across borders. @wyffest

9th of May in Russia is difficult to explain if you haven’t experienced it yourself.

It’s not only military parades and flags. There is something deeply emotional and almost romantic about it. Old songs from the war echo through the streets, families carry portraits of grandparents who never came home, young couples walk through cities filled with flowers, music and memories.

For many Russians, Victory Day is about sacrifice, survival, family and history. Almost every family lost someone during World War 2. That creates a connection to the past that still feels very alive today.

It’s one of the few days where an entire country seems united by memory.
