This Thursday, TANGELA joins us at RIFF. With a nimble and playful touch, she guides listeners through deep, bass-heavy underground realms before sending them drifting into vast, richly textured soundscapes full of unexpected turns.

TANGELA’s sonic storytelling is distinctive and constantly evolving. Before you know it, you may find yourself wondering how she has carried you so far from where you began. Versatility lies at the heart of her approach: from chuggy downtempo, wiggy tek and dubby breaks to fast-moving percussive techno, minimal psy and floaty trance, she moves effortlessly between them all.

Her sound carries an unmistakably psychedelic edge, deeply connected to the Australian bush where she frequently provides the soundtrack. Its organic textures evoke the feeling of stomping in a clearing deep among the trees, as morning light filters through eucalyptus branches and catches the mist—driven by hard-hitting drums soaked in deep bass, dubby echoes and bubbling undercurrents.

$@tangela__t 🧚 Tangela’s style of aural storytelling is as distinct as it is varied. She guides the listener through deep, subby, subterranean worlds, encouraging listeners to float up through spacious, textural soundscapes full of unexpected turns, all with a nimble and playful touch. You’ll find yourself wondering how it is you got here from where you began. Tangela’s meteoric rise through the underground scene finds its origins in her weekly radio slot on Sydney’s iconic FBi radio 94.5FM, currently in it’s fifth year of broadcasting all things “squelchy, wobbly, gooey, twisty”. Her signature style has translated from the airwaves to dance floors across many of Australia’s cult clubs, DIY warehouses and bush raves, including her own as founder of both dstreet and Minutiae Festival. Her record label Oomycota pushes into the experimental realm of techno, platforming emerging artists from Australia and beyond. Highlights across the European circuit include Garage Noord, Monument Festival, Macadam, Ouroboros, Refractor Festival, Saüle at Berghain, Trésor and Fold. Versatility is her strength. Equally in her element slowly building though chuggy downtempo, wiggy tek, and dubby breaks as she is whirling through percussive techno, minimal psy and floaty trance. Her sound is undeniably psychedelic, & one with deep connection to the Australian bush she soundtracks so regularly. Organic textures transport you to moments stomping in leafy clearings, hazy morning rays poking through the gumtrees, alongside thumping kicks drenched in subby, dubby, gurgling undertones. Alongside curating and throwing DIY events, she is heavily involved in her local community, organising ‘Dance Class’, a series of BIPOC & FLINTA DJ workshops and radio mentorship. @nikolas_wb A professional dancer from Russia, Niko weaves House, Techno, Breakbeat and Bass music into a raw and vivid interpretation of underground nightlife.
