Running is a selfish sport.

I spend a pretty ridiculous amount of time doing something that, at the end of the day, is for me.

You see the guy with the bib.
You see the finish line.
You see the results.

What you don't always see is the life behind the runner that makes it all possible.

For me, that's Mack.

I get to chase these goals and spend the time training and doing what I love because I have a strong wife at home who's willing to carry more than her share and give me the space to be the runner I am.

I'll never take that for granted.

And then you show up to a start line and you're reminded that this sport is so much bigger than just the person wearing the bib. The people, the mountains, the energy, the effort — all of it.

Forever lucky to get to do this. ⛰️

The most unemployed I have been since I was fifteen.
I still have a job. But 10 hours a week is a lot less than 60 😅

Amongst all the dilly dallying this summer I did manage to have a few fast days

05/02 Mailbox Peak car-car FKT 1:15:40, 4.6 miles 4k vert: arguably my best pure athletic performance of the summer lol

05/09 Mount Rainier on foot FKT 3:43: the big one!

06/27 Meet the Minotaur 5th overall 4:42: my one and only race of the year it seems. Would have liked to do more but the guiding makes it tricky. At least it was the best race on the continent

08/02 Mount Stuart West Ridge at the time FKT 4:54, 13 miles 8kish vert 5.6 climbing: briefly had the fkt on this rig till @justin.sackett took it back. Is this the start of the greatest rivalry in PNW mountain guiding?

Many days being chased and occasionally chasing gator the fkd (fastest known dog)

I have some big hopes and dreams for moving quickly in technical terrain next year but for now I will slowly climb some rock

Seriously, what a fun day on the trails, helping to sweep the MMTR course with Alana. We had a sprint finish, obviously. Who won? I don't know, it was definitely a photofinish 🤣😅.

First Ultra in the books and what a day it was!! 😍 Had the best time at the @lewistonultraevents Moose Mountain trail race and cant wait for more 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ (I do need to work on my photo posing skills though…)

Vendors are set, sponsors are showing up big, and hundreds of runners are already here soaking it all in! Gear up, catch up, and maybe question one’s life choices 😈

Behind the scenes, our volunteers and crew are absolutely grinding; hauling gear, dialing in the course, and making sure everything is ready for the adventure ahead. It doesn’t just happen… and they’re crushing it.

ICE ICE BABY! It's heating up out here, Sinister fans! This weekend is coming in HOT, so come prepared and beat the heat!

Stock up on water, ice and use @tailwindnutrition at the aid stations.

While the Sinister team does what they can, getting ice out to remote aid stations is tough (it melts fast!).

It is highly recommended that you grab your own ice in town in advance or asking your crew to meet at the transition areas prepared to cool down a boiled lobster.
