It is official! 🏆 Huge congratulations to Nils Beardfoot @nils_beardfoot of Germany on winning the 2026 World of WearableArt @worldofwearableart Wētā Workshop @wetaworkshop Outstanding Design Award for Waldschrat - Horror of the Forest!

Wow. Just wow. Out of 108 finalist works from 134 designers across 18 countries, yours was the one chosen for this award. Being recognised on the #WOW stage in Wellington is rare and special, and this honour is something truly extraordinary. Bringing a creature from German forest folklore to life so memorably is an achievement to be proud of.

✨ For those who already know Nils, this win is another milestone in a remarkable maker’s journey. Nils is a leather worker, LARPer and cosplayer from Germany. He has taken prizes at events including Gamescom, Stuttgart ComiCon and BlizzConline, and he shares his craft through tutorials and patterns so others can learn too. His channel is built around showing what is possible with leather, and this award shows just how far that passion can go.

Du siehst ein Cosplay. Ich sehe jemanden, der sich ein ganzes Berufsfeld selbst beigebracht hat.

Ich bin ausgebildete Produktdesignerin. Vielleicht sehe ich deshalb etwas mehr als ein verdammt gutes Kostüm:
* Eine Idee wird zum Konzept.
* Eine Zeichnung wird zum Schnittmuster.
* Materialien werden getestet und Prototypen gebaut.
* Probleme werden ohne großes Budget gelöst.
* Für jedes neue Projekt werden neue Fähigkeiten gelernt.

Cosplayer nähen, konstruieren, programmieren, modellieren, schminken, fotografieren und präsentieren.

Talent steht dabei selten am Anfang. Am Anfang steht die Entscheidung, es trotzdem zu versuchen.
