It's the last week of Christopher Astley's debut solo exhibition at @ninomiergallery. Entitled Umwelt, this body of work is inspired by Jakob von Uexküll's term for the unique perception of an organism's lived environment. Through his oil paintings, Astley explores the delicate connective tissue between the analog and the binary — an unexpectedly immersive presentation. Don't miss it!

STUDIO BALESTRA × NINO MIER
Los Angeles · Fall 2026

Studio Balestra announces a collaboration with Nino Mier Gallery, introducing a selection of contemporary painting and sculpture to our Los Angeles space.

Featuring works by Otis Jones, Jansson Stegner, Stefan Rinck and Jonathan Wateridge, among others, the presentation places distinct artistic practices alongside our collection of historical and contemporary design.

Color, surface and sculptural form offer new connections between the artworks and the furniture surrounding them a shared consideration of material, proportion and the presence of an object in a room.

Coming Fall 2026.

1) -3) #studioahotsof #lolagil @lolagil working on her painting entitled “Window Gazer with Artwork,” 2024; 4) #installshot of Lola standing next to that work at @ninomiergallery in #nyc ; 5) image of “In Front of Yellow Curtains,” 2026 that @ninomiergallery had at the 2026 @thearmoryshow ; 6) image of “Going Outside,” 2025 at @secristbeach as part of their group invitational survey ; 6) - 10) close ups of other works by Lola where she utilizes glass to mesmerizing effect via @hifructosemag . Lola is self-taught and began painting early in life as a kind of therapy, working daily. She blends Surrealism and Symbolism into what she calls "Narrative Escapism."She builds her images from childhood memory, stock imagery, and sketches, and the results have a cinematic feel. Glass recurs as a symbol of vulnerability and resilience, which we’ve highlighted in the above images. Lola shows with @ninomiergallery and @aishomiura , and has also had works up with @voenagallery @secristbeach

U-Haul Gallery was a bright spot on a stormy day in Manhattan. This was the second year of DIY Gallery, which provides itself on a clever gimmick to job people in. It’s a creative solution to the outrageous rents. The commercial spaces are forced to pay, and the enormous cost it takes to put on the show in New York City. They did a great job this year of thousands of people came out and it’s a good example of teamwork! Hopefully more people will follow this pattern of doing smaller scale shows and getting more art out into the public!
