🚨MAMA COTACACHI WILDFIRE🚨 🔔[MUTUAL AID IS NOW CLOSED] 🔥 A wildfire has struck one of the most sacred mountains for our Kichwa community. Mama Cotacachi is on fire. In three days, over 600 hectares have been affected, and, as too often happens, it is Indigenous communities on the frontlines, fighting to protect the lands. Mama Cotacachi is not just a sacred place. She is a source of water for the surrounding communities, their crops, and all of the animals that call the páramo home. Community members from surrounding communities, along with firefighters and volunteers from all over Imbabura have been fighting these flames. But they need our support! They need food, water, protective equipment, and emergency supplies. @kichwacollective is raising funds to help with this community response. All donations will go directly to Indigenous organizations on the ground getting urgent supplies to people fighting this fire and who have been affected by this fire. 👉🏽 Link in bio to donate

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the 24th session of UNPFII thanks to @kichwahatari , right here in Lenape territory. This year’s theme was Implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples within United Nations Member States and the UN system, including identifying good practices and addressing challenges 🌼 Every session I was able to attend taught me so much. Every conversation/ moment, deeply reminded me of how all our movements are interconnected and of the strength we carry when we walk together. It was powerful to hear voices directly from so many different territories 🌎 Our work wasn’t just about being present at the forum; it was also about creating spaces for the Kichwa community—through organizing, narrative building, a leadership summit, and through celebration 🫶🏽 I’m so grateful for every single person I met last week. I hope we can keep walking together 🌸 P.S. Here’s some of the artwork I created for the different events organized by @kichwahatari 🍃 P.S. I wish I could add more photos!🥺🌎✨ #KichwaArtist #KichwaWarmi #Kichwa
