Ending the year with amor and actually really proud of my ñeque (Kichwa word 🇪🇨for inner strength/resilience). The office has grown and it’s been an extra honor to be the place people go to be able to keep their light shining even when the world feels heavy. Wow-To see my patients: laugh, cry, grieve, breakup then rebuild, have support before/after birth and visualize the new reality 🏡 they want to create; it’s been beautiful! This is a loooong overdue post. About a year or so ago i approached my beloved friend @kalaandthelosttribe to colab on a new multimedia piece In Cantastoria format. She and I spent weeks or months writing some lyrics to tackle the timely (more timely now than ever) task of REDEFINING TERRORISM on a PEOPLES TERMS. Of course I only roll with the illest squad of all time and invited these heavy hitters @vash_art @nionoodle @angelgarciaart @mdot_season @thisispaloma_ and myself- to help illustrate and fabricate the living pages to accompany the work written to a bomba drumbeat - brilliantly orchestrated by the incomparable @manifiesto_music Sebas! who was teaching the youth music program at mayday. They were our drummers. We performed its debut at the @maydayspace festival of resistance as part of my @creativesrebuildny residency and it was legit POWERFUL. I'm bringing this to the forefront right now as we are co fronted with the even greater and more persistent than ever nefarious naming of our movements as the T word. And the redefining of our lives and freedoms are corroding the fabric of our collective landscape I think we should be doing much more to reclaim our vocabulary and defined terminologies as a society. Please reach out if u want to invite this performance into your organizing spaces and I think there is a LOT OF ROOM for an extended collaboration to write some more things and add more pages to the piece. I would like to see it grow organically and include even more histories - events - political education and let's bring it outside. Holler at me. The studio @medicine_walls is for the people forever. “WHAT WILL YOU CREATE”? My latest mural at The Yard Lower East Side in collaboration with @liquitexofficial asks “What Will You Create?” to viewers. Creativity is something we engage in everyday - we create our art, our relationships, our communities, our lives. Each day we have the opportunity to create a more vibrant, beautiful, connected and colorful world. This was the last mural I did in NYC before I moved to Boston. I miss my people. I miss the creative energy. I miss the days of being young in New York, nothing will replace that. But for now, I’m settling into Boston - and I’d love to collaborate with people here. If you know anyone who needs graphic design work, murals, or wants to chat about a creative brand collab please send them my way.
