POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We’re partnering with Health Care for All Oregon for a community poster-making workshop on Saturday, October 3rd. 10:30am - 4pm (register at link in bio)

Designers, HCAO volunteers, and the public will come together to create bold, impactful posters supporting Oregon’s fight to become the first state with a single-payer universal healthcare system.

We’ll break into small groups to brainstorm slogans, sketch ideas, and work alongside local creative directors to turn those ideas into finished posters.

Our goal is to leave the workshop with a collection of print-ready posters that HCAO can immediately use at rallies, activations, and events across Oregon.

No design experience necessary

Making a hard post to revisit this comic from a million years ago. I can’t really understate just how much of an impact Sick Of It All made in my life. Getting into punk in the early 90s was life changing, but the music still felt far away until I realized that living in Westchester I was just a short metro north train away from a vibrant and super active hardcore scene. I was really lucky that @sickofitallnyc was my introduction to the underground music scene that was really right outside my doorstep. Sick Of It All was for everyone, I feel like their shows brought together different elements of the scene, and we were all welcome, all a part of it. Moving to nyc in 96, hardcore and SOIA in particular became a constant, and I really relied on that. No matter what else was going on, I knew that these bands would be there and create a space where it was safe to be yourself, to go a little wild, to play and dance. Hardcore so often gets flagged for being violent, but I wish normies knew just how many of us who are sweaty and piled on top of each other are really just SO STOKED and smiling ear to ear. It really hasn’t fully sunk in that I’ll never get to see Sick Of It All again, and I feel bad that for a few years when I wasn’t as active going to shows I took for granted that of course I would get another shot. “Oh I’ll catch them next year…” As I creep towards 50, I’m more and more aware that we won’t be able to play like this for very much longer. Every show counts, every moment counts. If you have a home in hardcore or any underground creative scene, if you have that space that feels special and allows you to be yourself in a way that you maybe can’t in your day to day, remember to enjoy it. It really is so incredible, and it’s a space that we co-create together…thanks to Lou and everyone in Sick Of It All, for holding that space and bringing so many people together. #sickofitall #loukoller

The concept of this event was inspired by @foodforeveryone.aus who puts on an art show/fundraiser to raise money for people living with food insecurity in Melbourne, Australia every year 🥕

After reaching out to them, they were graciously open to me borrowing the idea and were so helpful with providing little details that have helped things move smoooothly 😌

Go check out their page, what they are doing is really meaningful 💙 — Thank you so much @foodforeveryone.aus 🤎

Yesterday our artists created their still life works for the show on May 30th with 100% of proceeds going to @pirc_oregon 💙 It was truly such a magical time together — creating, chatting, sharing drawing tools and ideas 🤎

Huge thank you to @sweetbbcorn for styling the beautiful still life, @hilaryhorvathflowers for the stunning floral pieces, @oddfellowstv for letting us take over your office, @kaitlynmahoney for the photos/footage and of course all of the wonderful artists who donated their time and talents ✨🫶
