Spending the past few months in Burundi and Kenya were nothing short of life changing. It felt like God was unraveling things in my heart that I didn’t even know were there perspectives, desires, dreams, and burdens that are now burning inside me.

The thing that really stood out to me was how much my view of success changed. Before this season of life, success looked like having a role in a ministry, running a thriving business, living on my own schedule, and enjoying a comfortable life. None of those things are inherently bad, but that definition of success was completely obliterated during my time in Burundi.

For context Burundi is one of the poorest countries in the world, yet I saw more joy there than I have ever seen anywhere else in my 21 years of life thus far. The joy was so so pure and sincere regardless of their external circumstances even when living in poverty. By the world’s standards it looked like they had nothing, but in reality they had everything.

Then we visited a prison in Kenya, and it was a surreal experience. On one side were men who seemed lifeless, hopelessly counting down the days until release or death. On the other side was a group of men leading their own church inside the prison. I genuinely can’t put into words the amount of joy, freedom, and life that radiated from them even when it made no sense for them to feel this way.

It got me thinking about how often I see people in America living the “American Dream” the house in the suburbs, the newest vehicle, and everything money can buy yet often times they seem completely soulless. Many appear to have it all, but have nothing.

Why???

We weren’t created to find our value in chasing the next achievement, climbing to a higher position, or constantly pursuing material things in hopes that they will finally make us feel fulfilled. If this is the way we find our value it will be a never ending cycle of dissatisfaction.

The reason we were created is to be in relationship with God and when we try create our own version of success that doesn’t have Jesus at the center it will always fall short.

True success is living a life with Christ and everything else that comes is a bonus.

Waiting on God isn’t wasting time, it’s alignment
If it’s quiet right now, He’s working behind the scenes
No rushing, no shortcuts, no panic… just trust the process
God’s timing never misses

Christmas isn’t just a season, it’s a statement.

When the world needed light, God sent His Son.
Not a symbol. Not a slogan. A Savior.

Jesus is the reason. Always has been. Always will be. 🎄✨
