Art & Design Program Head, Brad McCombs recently designed and built a children’s area at the Holloway House with the help of our students Bri Wallace, Gigi Modaffari , Rachel Paxitzis , and Ariana Profitt.

The Holloway House and Resource Center will open in 2024 as,“a managed site for teen parent families. Our new 6,400 sq ft. facility will house all of our current operations, provide business and educational resources, and provide supportive housing for teen moms and their babies; additionally, a state-of-the-art tech lab will serve the community.

Rosemary’s Baby Co. Supportive Housing will be a highly integrated system of living arrangements and professional case management services that provides parenting teens a safe place to live, 24-hour access to caring adults, and connections to community resources that provide share responsibility plans”. - https://www.rosemarysbabies.co/changetheoutlook/hollowayhouse

Fantastic work, everyone!

We are very fortunate to be in our third semester of collaborations with the excellent @steely_library STEGO maker space for our plaster casting / mold-making project (with digital interface)! .
.
.
.
A very special thanks to Samantha Geiger -Makerspace Coordinator- for assisting our Sculpture 1 students in 3D printing their sculptural forms as patterns for taking silicone molds. With STEGO assistance and personnel students printed 3 objects at 3 different scales. Once printed- students generated silicone molds and plaster castings from these.
The final castings will be incorporated into three dimensional compositions!

Meet Jazaya Miller- one of our advanced spatial arts students - currently working on a series of ceramic bust sculptures. The advanced level of study in spatial arts offers students a personal work space set within a wider communal room for the duration of the semester!

Recently our sculpture students produced three-dimensional compositions by deconstructing three basic welded geometric shapes (cube, pyramid, sphere). The geometries were all produced using an 18" dimensional module.

Hello! I'm Gary Sczerbaniewicz, Assistant Professor of Sculpture in the Sparial Arts department. I'm doing an IG takeover today to share some of the exciting work and fun processes that we work with here in sculpture!
.
.
.
My first post comes from a recent project in Sculpture 1 where students are tasked with casting body parts & 3D printed objects with the aim of blending these components into an engaging 3D composition! These images are from a fun day in our process where several students had their faces cast in alginate- a non toxic material commonly used in dentistry. Once the molds were taken - plaster was then cast into the impressions to make the face casts! It's a messy process but fun for students to experience!!!
