POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Yesterday I had the immense pleasure of being invited by @nmbc to the @guildhallschool at the @barbicancentre 🩷💜 — I shared a chapter in progress from my forthcoming book, the chapter is called pleasure: weighted blankets, compensation & compression shirts — from my forthcoming book project (currently titled) ‘Conceptual Buckets: Indexing for Disability Justice’. I am so grateful for everyone who came and listened to me make sense of weight, how technology can be relationally reimagined and how trans*crip practices open new worlds. Thank you, thank you. 🌸

When I begun at @trinitylaban in 2018, I expected to really ‘learn how to play cello’, and part of that mission was signing up to Douglas Finch’s famously intriguing improvisation module. 7 years later ~ 2 years of studying, 5 years of support teaching his class ~ I must have learnt something, as I’m somehow taking over the lead of this class.
Douglas, amongst many other wonderful people, truly have led me down an endless path, where the aim to ‘play’ becomes a process rather than a destination.
Here are some moments of me at Trinity, often doing the wrong thing…which usually means you’re on the right path 🌚

To those who understand the music reference, jokes aside, of course I can’t say anything without a reference to Natalia and Sasha. Скучаю 🤍

Earlier this month, during my lecture at Guildhall School in London, I had the opportunity to reflect on the body’s dual role in working with low-frequency sound, both as a decision maker in the compositional process and as an active participant in shaping the experience. Central to this is the body’s direct engagement with tactile vibrations, where sound moves beyond passive listening to become a physical force that interacts with spatial and sensory perception.

Through my research framework and body of work, BODIES AND SUBWOOFERS (B.A.S.), I explore how low-frequency sound engages the body beyond auditory pathways, fostering an accessible and inclusive experience through somatosensory perception. When composing, my body works in tandem with low-frequencies and the subwoofers to select sounds based on how they are physically felt, guiding both compositional choices and spatial interactions.

Thank you to all those who joined us for our first evening of music, poetry and reflection, raising funds for emergency aid in Lebanon.

All donations will be sent to @tuneforkstudios and @beirutsynthcenter who have turned their facilities into a crisis center dedicating their time collecting and distributing emergency aid for displaced people in Lebanon. As conditions worsen throughout winter, they provide life saving and essential resources for those displaced. Please check out their pages for more ways to donate and the important work that they’re doing.

We hope to see you all again in December 🕊️
