Day 1 @byronschoolofart Painting in an expanded field with @cusack2. So good to dive into a new field of exploration. I thoroughly enjoyed making marks using the visible history of the concrete floor, something I relate to. Nadia @nmia jumped in and our collaboration flowed from there.

Art hangs today visiting Olafur Eliasson: Presence @qagoma with my ever wonderful @byronschoolofart VAP friends and Byron fambam. Rainbows and raindrops, and soundscapes of wonder! 🌈 ✨ 🪨
The last pic is from the window near Archie Moore’s ‘kith and kin’, even on a second visit this work packs a punch casting light and truth onto lives and stories systemically silenced. So powerful. Get to it!

🌱 Ferrosol/Goodjing (2025). acrylic on plaster
940 x 940 x 360mm
available for sale until January 9th at Side Gallery, Red Hill as part of the TENFOLD Small Works exhibition exploring 'Nostalgia'
-

Ferrosol is an uncommon soil type rich in iron oxides, and Goodjing/Cudgen is a Bundjalung word for this striking red soil that has been cared for by Cudgenburra/Gujinbara for countless sunrises.

this piece remembers the layered horizon of red soil, white sand and deep blue ocean looking out at the coastal farmland from the Cudgen plateau in NSW, close to where my sister and i grew up.
we were constantly packing up our lives and moving around between unstable rentals; but back then, the country itself seemed solid and unchanging.

my sister showed me the casting process in her home studio. i will forever be chasing the feeling of her art practice in my own ✨

Hey dad! I was six when I told you I wanted to be an artist. You said no, I had to be a doctor or a lawyer instead. Well good news — Angie is the lawyer, and so I’ve taken it upon myself to be the artist. I made money young thanks to you, and it took me ages but I found something I love. 🥰 I’m very happy. I hyperfocused today for the first time in decades, sculpting plaster. It was bliss, caught in the act by my amazing friends, @kyliecoelli and @nmia. They’re artists too. You’d love these girls. There are 13 of us and we are dynamic and ferocious, just like what you admire in strong women. I’ve been worried you’d be disappointed in the wild life I chose, but I’m starting to think you’re up there (down there? 😈) laughing. I’m doing what I want and loving every minute, just like your gravestone says. A chip off the ole block. Love you, old man.
