FUCKED COUNTRY, NOISY UNDERGROUND

Apart from the seasonal, prolonged transboundary haze crisis that makes our eyes sore, the fact that a former leader was granted a second, conditional pardon under house arrest & that three former state leaders (he’s one of them) simultaneously appeared at the same court within the past 4 weeks shows how fucked up Malaysia is.

Channelling those ‘unprecedented events’ into the despised world of counterculture movement. Here in KL punk community scene, Gorgeous Eye & Tampui Records host Mass 49 from Indonesia with Termination & The Dead Pan Speakers from Japan under FEEL THE PAIN V10/NIHILISTIC GAZE NIGHT. Then, weeks later, on the northern island, Ruas Store collaborated with No Solucion to celebrated REAL SHIT IN GEORGETOWN V5 with our local heroes DEAD BUZZ,BONDAGE & BODY RAG commanding the stage for both slots.

Yeah..the country’s fucked. At least the underground’s still making noise.

My 36 REFLX LAB film rolls can’t do justice to the chaotic, high-energy and DIY nature of punk subculture. But, if you were there, you’d sure as hell hold it in high regard.

Heh..
There was a funny incident in Penang, where a punk guy got flat drunk during the 4th band, slept through the entire evening..missed all the other 6 bands..woke up during the last band’s early set..washed his face..took a sneak peek at the band, then went straight home. No regrets.
