The colloquium series Research Ecologies is aimed at doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers in the arts and sciences.

In July, featuring, among others:

Home Taxidermy
We experience space through sensory input—seeing, hearing, smelling—as well as through proprioception, our ability to physically sense our position and movement within a space. Yet our interpretation of these sensations depends on our expectations: previous experiences, cultural biases, and trauma affect what we perceive and what we remember.
Home Taxidermy is an investigation into how we remember spaces, examining the roles of narrative and 3D reconstructions in the encoding and retrieval of spatial memories. The project uses participatory workshop-performances as a research methodology.
Thinking of migration as one of the defining conditions of our world today, but also as the quiet movement that accompanies us in all transitions in our lives, taxidermy is taken here as a metaphor for the act of preserving or reenacting life after it has been removed from its original context: can an outer shell hold the meaning that was once inside it? Can we reconstruct a space, and the identity it carried, using memories which are incomplete, fragmented and distorted?

Noa Heyne @noaheyne is a Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist. She studied painting and comparative literature in Jerusalem, and sculpture in New York and Baltimore, USA. She received her MFA in sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in 2017. Heyne is the recipient of several fellowships, including Acre Residency, WI, USA (2018); ZK/U Residency, Berlin (2019); Culture Zone Residency, Wroclaw, Poland (2020), and Künstlergut Prösitz (2026). In 2021 she was a fellow in the LABA Berlin Program, and in 2025 she was a fellow in the UdK Prof*me program.

Admission is free, but the number of participants is limited, and spots are filling up very quickly – please make sure to reserve your place asap via: https://pretix.eu/bibxhain/gravities/

I hope to see you there with us!

very excited to invite to the second launch event for the digital exhibition that I co-curated with Sapir Huberman last year: ‘Navigating Between Gravities: Jüdisches Leben in Berlin, Damals und Jetzt’ to take place on Thursday 6th November, 5pm, in the Pablo Neruda Central Library in Friedrichshain. The event is part of the discursive program of the exhibition, where artist Noa Heyne was invited to present her work and lead a performative workshop. During this workshop, the audience will be invited to share stories about the places they grew up in. Together with the artist, they will then transform these fragmented memories into physical objects.
The number of participants is limited, so please make sure to reserve your place in good time. Here is the link for the registration: https://pretix.eu/bibxhain/gravities/

TRANSDIASPORA group exhibition as part of the 48 hours Neukölln festival
27.6. 19-22
28.6. 10-22
At Neuköllner Arcaden (more info in bio) with works by:
Dona Asisi, Esther Goodstein, J.K. Langford, Na’ama Landau, Deborah S. Philips, Noa Heyne, Robert Yerachmiel Sniderman+Adi Liraz+Eliana Pilskin Jacobs+Jana Papenbrook

Negotiating the question of truth and lies, this interdisciplinary exhibition presents pluralistic Jewish artistic positions that reflect on the current situation in Israel/Palestine and the way it is perceived in German society, particularly in Berlin and specifically in Neukölln.

As Berlin based Jewish people, we notice that there is a monolithic representation of what it means to be ‘Jewish’ in German society, media and press, which does not apply to all of us. Watching the media, one gets the impression that there is only one position of a few ‘decision-makers’, who present their truth as the only justifiable and existing one.
As a group of people from different backgrounds, with different lives and experiences, we want to promote pluralism in Jewish life and Jewish positions. What brings us together is our attempt to reclaim and define ourselves, our values and our identities.

The artists involved are deeply committed to ensuring that Jewish diversity is taken into account. Our attempt is to shatter one-dimensional perspectives and offer multifaceted reflections of Jewish experiences. We represent perspectives from the (trans)diaspora, speak and create communication through our art.

Noa Heyne
