Hard to get my head out of the sweltering sickness of this past week’s exposure. The going’s on behind the curtain have undoubtedly come to light, will they be exposed further!? Or will they go the wayside like the Epstein files, I hope it’s not the latter.
The allegations are sick and twisted, the repercussions were swift, if true , I hope more to come. As investigations continue by Interpol , Australian and finally the Tahitian authorities, I can only think of this poor girl who is at the center and her family. Then there’s Noah Klapp, who gave her ex an ultimatum and held her ground, what an incredible woman! Tough as nails to lay down the law, paying attention to his shenanigans only to pull out and fire her silver bullet when necessary. Well played Noah, I know you and your brother and your family are top notch. The entire surf community stands with you ,not to mention the young girls and women you helped have a voice.
I hope all men who know any nonsense will come forward, all women too, this is the time. This cannot and must not just go away, like the Epstein files. We must expose all of it.
The time is now.

Professional surfer Noah Klapp has publicly accused Alan Cleland Jr. of physical, sexual and psychological abuse during their relationship, and says she has since received further accounts from women involving him and other professional surfers. The WSL and ISA have announced provisional suspensions while the allegations are being reviewed; both have stressed that these precautionary measures do not constitute a finding of guilt.

Integrity sounds easy. It’s easy to say, but it’s not always easy to do.

Recent events at @wsl show how difficult this is for all of us. How many athletes walked away from situations where they knew something was wrong because it was safer for their careers? How many times have young surfers on the tour been put in vulnerable situations because older men and women (but especially men) didn’t step up and do the right thing?

This is not a question of blame. This is a question of culture. All of the men who were involved in the abuse of a young surfer must be held responsible. But what of those men and women who chose to pretend nothing was happening at other times and in other places; those who left because they didn’t want to be somewhere where something “bad” might happen. What is their level of responsibility?

This brings me back to the question of integrity. There is a famous story from the Titanic where men, millionaires and workers alike, let women and children board lifeboats first, at the expense of their own lives. Integrity means doing what is right, regardless of the cost, and the cost can be extraordinarily high. Ask anybody who spoke up against Harvey Weinstein.

To be men and women of integrity, we must hold ourselves to high standards. As we grow in our careers and gain fame and fortune, we must hold ourselves to ever higher standards. None of us is perfect. Many of us have failed to live up to our own high standards. Most of us have walked away from situations where we might have made a difference because it was safer.

But integrity demands that we set high standards and live up to those standards. That’s why it’s so hard. That’s why it’s so rare. That’s why we admire and respect those who embody it. @noahklapp #metoo #courage #integrity

Elle lui avait promis qu’elle parlerait. Lundi, le jour de ses 23 ans, Noah Klapp a tenu parole.
On a hésité à faire cette vidéo. Pas parce que le sujet est flou, mais parce qu’il est grave, et qu’on aime ce sport, ses surfeurs, et qu’on avait, nous aussi, applaudi.
Mais un média surf qui se tait quand une surfeuse parle, ce n’est pas un média. C’est un fan club.
Ce qu’on sait :
Dimanche 11 octobre, la WSL a suspendu à titre provisoire un surfeur du Championship Tour, sans le nommer, pour des « allégations d’une nature profondément grave » liées à une soirée privée à Tahiti en août. La presse l’a identifié comme Alan Cleland Jr.
Lundi 12 octobre, Noah Klapp, surfeuse allemande, ex-championne du monde junior ISA, a publié sous son nom un témoignage de violences physiques, sexuelles et psychologiques qu’elle dit avoir subies à 17 ans, dans sa relation avec lui. Son histoire est distincte de l’affaire de Tahiti.
Kelly Slater, Tyler Wright, Bethany Hamilton et Gabriel Medina l’ont publiquement soutenue.
Ce qu’on ne sait pas encore :
Le parquet de Papeete indique qu’aucune enquête n’est ouverte localement à ce jour. Alan Cleland Jr. est présumé innocent. Contacté par plusieurs médias, il n’a pas répondu publiquement. Si une réponse arrive, on la publiera ici.
Ce qui ne changera pas, quelle que soit la suite :
Seules 7 % des femmes signalent les violences qu’elles subissent dans le sport (UNESCO). En France, 91 % des personnes mises en cause dans les signalements Signal-Sports en 2025 sont des hommes (ministère des Sports). Noah l’écrit elle-même : « I know there are many other stories like mine. »
Un palmarès ne devrait jamais rendre une parole plus difficile à entendre. Noah a promis de parler. À nous de promettre d’écouter.

Episode 208 - Trigger Warning - This Is Real Bad!

We planned to record a podcast and 5 minutes before Noah Klapp posted her incredibly brave and extremely vile post regarding Alan Cleland Junior, so our takes are pretty fresh, raw, emotional and it has to be said, Darren hadn’t seen Noah’s post until after the episode and he was horrified by it too.

We do talk about new boards on order, some kook or core subjects, Matt’s recent trip to Lost Shore and upcoming events, but this all falls aside to the important and horrific message and news that has been filtering out over the last few days.

We stand with Noah and anyone else going through such vile times and we feel like we have to address this and use any platform we have to try and support and give power to the victims.

No one should even go through this, and no one should ever carry fear in speaking up.

A surfista Noah Klapp publicou nesta segunda-feira (12) um depoimento nas redes sociais em que acusa o mexicano Alan Cleland Jr. de violência física, sexual e psicológica durante um relacionamento que, segundo ela, durou aproximadamente um ano, quando tinha 17 anos.

Em seu relato, Noah descreve episódios de agressões, comportamentos de controle e consequências emocionais que afirma carregar até hoje. A surfista explica que permaneceu em silêncio durante anos por medo de não ser acreditada e decidiu tornar sua história pública após tomar conhecimento das recentes denúncias relacionadas ao Tahiti.

No domingo (11), a World Surf League (WSL) anunciou a suspensão provisória de um competidor do Championship Tour masculino de 2026, após receber denúncias classificadas como extremamente graves, relacionadas a uma “reunião privada” realizada no Tahiti, em agosto, sem ligação com a entidade.

A WSL não revelou a identidade do atleta nem detalhou as denúncias. O jornalista australiano Nick Carroll, da revista Surfing World, identificou Alan Cleland Jr. como o competidor suspenso em sua apuração.

Outro desdobramento envolve a Quiksilver. Cleland deixou de aparecer na relação oficial de atletas da marca, e sua antiga página individual também não está mais disponível.

Em sua manifestação, Noah também critica comportamentos que considera normalizados na indústria do surfe profissional e pede mudanças na maneira como situações de violência são tratadas.

O depoimento da surfista repercutiu nas redes sociais, com manifestações de apoio à sua decisão de falar publicamente.

É importante destacar que as acusações apresentadas por Noah dizem respeito a um relacionamento anterior, distinto do episódio mencionado no comunicado oficial da WSL.
