We are excited to share a snippet of another brand new song written by our very own @natalienikao This original tune, entitled “It’s Nothing Really”, tells the story of two people who are no longer in relationship running into each other in a book store and the awkward dance of deciding whether or not to engage with one another. We had the opportunity and pleasure to premier this tune this weekend and we are excited to include it on our upcoming record! More information to come very soon! #vocaljazz #originalmusic #newmusic

Episode 0020, “Beautiful Love” Love a song too much? It becomes # Written in 1931 by three composers who span three different decades of American songwriting, turned into a jazz standard thirty years later by Bill Evans, Scott LaFaro, and Paul Motian on Explorations. And then there’s Helmet. Page Hamilton — Helmet’s frontman — has an actual master’s degree in jazz guitar. He loved the Bill Evans version so much he buried it in distortion and had to talk his own band into playing it. That’s this episode in one sentence: a 1931 ballroom waltz, wrecked on purpose, out of love. This week: a solo guitar reading, Ranee Lee’s Brazilian-flavored samba take, a metal band’s jazz-school frontman going completely rogue, and a 2023 gypsy-jazz quartet led by German guitarist Joscho Stephan proving this ballroom waltz still has somewhere new to go. New episode up now — link in bio. #BeautifulLove #BillEvans #ScottLaFaro #PaulMotian RealBook JazzStandard JazzHistory TheStandardShow BigERadio YEGmusic EdmontonJazz JoePass RaneeLee Helmet JoschoStephan GypsyJazz JazzPodcast JazzRadio StandardsSeries

Here are some highlights from Forum this past Friday! 🎤 We had the chance to hear from Naomi Warren and Sloane Dyer, who both did a fantastic job. It takes so many musicians to make Forum possible, and we’re incredibly grateful for each of them. Thank you to everyone who participated this week—and to all the musicians in the past who have been willing to share their gifts and talents with our community! @untjazz #untvocaljazz #happyforumfriday #meangreen #untjazz #vocaljazz
