Welcome back to the September edition of Souper Simple, celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with and benefiting Evanston Latinos! What a lovely early fall evening. It was so wonderful to see so many familiar faces, and to welcome new ones too! This is what we love most about Souper Simple: bringing people together around a table, sharing soup and bread, and creating space for neighbors to meet, connect, and enjoy one another’s company. At each dinner, we highlight a different organization or community initiative making a difference in Evanston. These gatherings give our community a chance to learn about and find ways to support the many people and organizations helping our city thrive. Thank you to our soup makers this month Ernesto Rodriguez of El Molcajete Sauces and Jennifer Kihm, bread maker Button Bakery, and Noah Sheldon Photography for hosting the dinner in his beautiful studio. Thank you to Nancy Castillo, board chair of Evanston Latinos, for sharing with us the important work you do and the impact it has on our community. And thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so special. ❤️

Yesterday at The Big Pop Show I was telling Braden @savemoreink about my book Scraps because it feels connected to the documentation that he and others are doing within the realm of their music community. I want to reprint it in the near future

What an incredible evening at the inaugural Souper Simple community dinner, organized by Jennifer Kihm, Evan Girard, Maggie Peng and Claire Seizovic, kicking off and benefiting Dempster Design Row Weekend. Beautiful soups by local chefs Jennifer Kihm, Evan Girard, and Pam Allen made with farm ingredients sourced through Wild Onion Market. Bountiful bread generously made and donated by David Nielsen and Button Bakery. Hosted in the airy studio of Noah Sheldon and Maggie Peng, the evening brought together our design and art community, many participating in Dempster Design Row Weekend. Our hearts are full of gratitude ❤️ We look forward to seeing many more of you at this weekend’s events AND at the next Souper Simple dinner!
