DURUS, YOU WERE A TIME. @painkllr

6 hours. Relay style. No set distance. Just four big dawgs seeing how far we could push ourselves.

50.5 FREAKING MILES 🫡

We ran hard, ran fast, questioned a few life choices, and surprised ourselves!

But the real flex for the day was THE PEOPLE.

@hunterboltzz @bibian.c @nbtxrunclub for being the best crew, so many friends showing up, texts, check-ins, and a whole lot of people cheering us on.

And BIG shoutout to my big dawgs @abigailkelling @maddieswearingen and @hollyhharwood for saying YES to running in circles for six hours 🫠

Life is really freaking good when you find people who will do hard things with you. 🤘🏼

4 DAYS UNTIL we take on the challenge of the DURUS race. 4 members, 6 hours, 1 course , 3 configurations changing every 2 hours…how many miles can you go? No distance No finish line. How far are you willing to push yourself? DURUS: LATIN FOR HARD. UNYIELDING. CAPABLE OF ENDURANCE.
So grateful to have this opportunity to compete and be part of this amazing team. @nbtxrunclub @painkllr @kirby_jclark @noahtambunga @regular.larry @lskd @lskd.usa @bibian.c @hunterboltzz

All of this because some dumb college kid decided to wear a cowboy hat to a bar 4 years ago.

spartan 5k. my first ever race of any kind. i had barely transitioned to elbow-crutches from a walker. my body barely had enough strength to hold itself upright. neurologically my body was still spastic, so my control over its movements were primitive. at the time we couldn’t afford high-quality crutches, these were flimsy plastic ones off amazon.

i was scared, but exhilarated. till this point, life had been so contained due to my condition + recovery…finally an opportunity to be as free as i could.

this adventure was possible due to my brother, austin. he walked with, carried, protected, + supported me from start to finish.

@painkllr DURUS race is coming up October 10th, and we are PUMPED! 🔥

The team is ready to compete, push their bodies to the limit, and see just how many miles they can accumulate together in a span of 6 hours. It’s going to be a challenge, but they are ready to put in the work and have some fun along the way.

A huge thanks to @lskd.usa and @blenders for sponsoring the team gear and getting the squad looking right! 🙌🏼

Let’s get after it! 💪🏼🔥

steven’s ultra marathon 2024. a nonstop, 23 hour walk on my elbow-crutches. a 6th anniversary celebration of my recovery from paralysis + onset of guillain-barre syndrome. the course started at the doorstep of my home in west covina + ended at jerry moss plaza in downtown los angeles. this walk was hell + heaven all at once. i am grateful for the beauty + power in every step forward.

this was also a fundraiser for the challenged athletes foundation, a nonprofit organization which supports athletes with disabilities. this group had gifted me a grant for my custom elbow-crutches earlier in my recovery.
