It was a true honor to speak at the World Knowledge Forum 2026. Knowing I was taking the same stage previously graced by such incredible figures as Bill Gates, Hillary Clinton, Kimoon Ban, Sam Altman, Eric Adams, Alan Greenspan, Steve Wozniak, Colin Powell, Tony Blair, and Justin Trudeau, I’ll admit I was secretly terrified on my way to the event… haha. But I was so relieved and grateful that those who made a point to drop by my session left such kind words afterwards, telling me how much they enjoyed the talk.

Our session today—together with Noam Segal from the Guggenheim and MoonTae Lee, Head of the Superintelligence Lab at LG AI Research—focused on "AI, Art, and the Future of Creativity." As we’ve been in close touch ever since launching the LG Guggenheim Art and Technology Initiative, the conversation felt naturally comfortable, just like our usual catch-ups. Many thanks to MaeKyung Media Group for having us.

Trevor Paglen’s performance-lecture The Lizard People are Here! at the Guggenheim with Noam Segal, LG Electronics Associate Curator, invites audiences to consider whether we are entering a new age of invisible architectures and algorithmic systems that shape perception, knowledge, and power. Bringing together psyops, artificial intelligence, magic, mind control, UFOs, and more, the program examines historical precedents for the manipulation of human perception at a moment when artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly pervasive.

The performance was followed by a conversation between Paglen and Noam Segal reflecting on how rapid developments in artificial intelligence are reshaping everyday life, modes of thought, and artistic practice. With some added fun with lizards 🦎

Thank you to everyone who made last night’s Young Collectors Council (YCC) Party such an unforgettable celebration of art, technology, and community! ✨

A huge congratulations to Trevor Paglen, (@trevorpaglen) the 2026 LG Guggenheim Award recipient. We were honored to celebrate his groundbreaking contributions to the field.

We’re still thinking about YCC 2026 Artist Collaborator Diane Severin Nguyen’s mesmerizing activations, alongside electrifying DJ sets from The Muses (@themusesnyc), Dylan Rhee (@dylanjrhee), Angel + Dren (@angelanddren), and nguyendowsXP (@_n_x_p)—all while celebrating 30 years of YCC.

We’re still glowing from it all. ✨

Time flies, "Ayoung Kim: Delivery Dancer Codex" @momaps1 ends this Monday, March 16th. Seeing the series gain such visibility has been surreal. This show (and the Performa Biennial) was a 'moment' in the work's lifecycle, something I’ve thought about deeply.

Thanks to everyone who visited, whether with resonance or resistance :) My sincere thanks to the teams who brought this show to life, and gratitude to all the supporters...!

Amidst the growing speculation and anxiety surrounding emerging technologies, I've been thinking about how and in what ways artists can respond to the worlds as a sort of litmus paper for society.

Closing party tomorrow, the 13th, featuring a DJ set by Kim Ahn @kimanhofficial . Hope you have a wonderful time...! (Sadly, I can’t be there...🥺)

Synthetic Legacies: Roundtable Discussion with Noam Segal, Shannon Mattern, and Sara O’ Keeffe
Wednesday, January 28 at 7 PM !

As part of the Synthetic Legacies series organized in collaboration with artist Davide Balula, SI presents Data Life, a conversation on legacy custodianship across living and computational entities. Curators Noam Segal and Sara O’Keefe and scholar Shannon Mattern join Davide Balula to examine the traces that collaborations with organic, mineral, and synthetic systems leave behind, and how those traces might persist, erode, or be rewritten over time.

“AI doesn’t remember the past; it fabricates the most probable versions of it. Those fabrications seep into catalogues, archives, feeds, and search results, quietly pre-editing art practices as they enter the record.

Probabilistic systems move faster than we can feel. It’s easy to trust them and grow addicted to the relief of letting them make decisions. The gain is speed. But the loss is a slow erosion of our cognitive capacity to sit with uncertainty, the unresolved turbulence that gives art its power. As these systems guess their way through redrawing the picture, how do we keep embodied interpretation from slipping out of the record?

Archives are metabolic systems, not repositories; they grow, they rot. In such environments, maintenance becomes a creative act. Stewardship may lie in preserving ruptures and silences, human friction, irregularity, and intervals that keep an archive from flattening into a dataset or history from sliding into automated narratives.

If doubt is a productive form of knowledge, what happens when we outsource it to systems built to favor the consensus over the critical? What if history’s most consequential moments aren’t driven by probable patterns at all, but by outliers that tip the whole structure: the fault line that finally gives, the drop that breaks the surface tension?

Will we trust algorithms to settle these questions with us?”

– Davide Balula
