13 April 2011. A young man from Delft boarded a plane for the first time in his life. I had nothing. Nothing to call my own. No stability. No certainty about the future. Just a visa, a suitcase, an oversized suit, and a dream that felt impossible. But what I remember most is not the excitement. It was the fear. Even after everything was approved, I still believed something terrible was going to happen and stop me from leaving. That’s what survival does to you. When life has disappointed you enough times, you stop expecting good things to last. You wait for things to fall apart. Even inside your breakthrough. Years later, I realize how much anxiety stole from me. Not opportunities. Not success. But presence. Joy. Peace in the moment. And I know many people from in disadvantaged situations and backgrounds understand this feeling deeply. Sometimes the hardest thing is not chasing the dream. It’s believing you deserve to live it once it finally arrives. But I got on the plane anyway. And that changed my life. #4impilo #MentalHealthAwareness #TownshipStories #Healing #SelfBelief CapeFlats MentalFitness Growth
