A brilliant couple of days away in the North West (of England) to see the mighty @witheredhand. It's my 50th in a couple of weeks and I usually take myself of for a running adventure round about birthday time, but injury this year has meant long runs are out of the question, so I opted for a wee alternative treat instead😊
.
.
First up was #Manchester, well Chorlton to be precise and the excellent @thelloydschorlton. A gorgeous venue. A delight to catch up with @nolanw69 there having spent the afternoon with @rhinohead1 (who I gig-napped to come along despite him not having heard Dan before! A new convert😊)
.
.
Manchester never disappoints and Andy did his city host bit with a tour of some excellent hostelries🍻
Dan was on terrific form and was joined for a couple of songs by the very talented @runremedy who had earlier provided excellent support. A gorgeous show in a lovely venue with pals. What more do you need?
.
.
Day 2 was a trip to #Preston for a show at the #NewContinental. Afternoon Preston wandering for dinner and a jar in the @winckleystreetalehouse which definitely merits a return visit on its own!
.
.
A (perhaps ill advised?) walk to the venue via #AvenhamPark in the dark which properly spooked me out...Halloween notwithstanding😳👻
.
.
Further spooky vibes at the gig in the Boathouse Event Space, which Dan christened 'Macabre Chintz', who I reckon are probably the next big thing in Death Metal. Perhaps 'Cosy Metal' if that's a thing?
.
.
Another fantastic show, Dan's vocals sounding great and plenty good stories too. I loved it. Massive thanks to Dan for taking time to chat too😊
.
.
A splendid trip...until next time 🤘👻🤘

For the second year in a row, not a #medalMonday but a #slatecoastermonday from @marathoneryri 😊
.
.
An absolute pleasure to return to this most beautiful of races and thoroughly chuffed (like #IvorTheEngine) to have taken 5min57 off last year's time💪 Can't believe that's marathon number ten for me😳
.
.
Planned 10min/miles and managed that to around halfway but - and I'm sure this happens to lots of us runners - my brain had TOTALLY BLANKED OUT HOW HARD MILES 13-17 ARE😳🥵 Just a super long gradual slog...not funny in the slightest 😆
.
.
I was really pleased with how it was going til halfway, 3:40 up on last year at #penypas then my knee started to hurt on the climb out of #bedgellert up to mile 17...run/walk strategy got me to #waunfawr then, remembering how horrendous those few miles are I decided just to fast walk up the hills to the aid station at mile 24...
.
.
I knew that even though I'd slowed down I could still get in quicker than last time and a fellow runner on her first time doing the race encouraged me to go for it...as we both flew down the final, crazy, descent she shouted "go beat that time" and with just 600metres or so to go I put the foot down as best I could, even managing to overtake a few folk on #Llanberis high street😊
.
.
Absolutely delighted with my time, had a brilliant day out chatting to lovely folk on the course, a delight to share a few hundred yards with @rhinoboychris who is the best kind of nutter🤣 and to hook up with @nolanw69 at mile8 before meeting him again in #Betwsycoed in the evening for drinks and chat🍻
.
.
A fantastic event, the most INCREDIBLE support all the way round in even the remotest places and a wonderful few days away...back next year? 🤔🤔🤔🏃🏃🏃⛰🚂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Sometimes you do just have to pull over and take a breath...
.
.
Literally had to stop driving as the tears started...I'm not actually sad or anything, just got overwhelmed by the music...was thinking about how @elbowofficial write these beautiful wee mini rock operas in their songs as I was listening to #TheTakeOffAndLandingOfEverything when #MySadCaptains came on🥺
.
.
It's a song I love anyway and I'm not sure if it's my age or being a bit tired and emotional after the drain of the @marathoneryri adventures over the weekend or the fact that, for a variety of reasons, this is always a tricky time of year for me...but as the line "and if it's so we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time" burst from the speakers, the floodgates opened😭
.
.
The song is essentially about belonging and friendship and I suppose that platonic love...got me thinking about the wonderful company, chat and encouragement I've had over the last few days from three in particular who I don't actually know very well, in fact I've only met each of them twice in person but feels like it's been longer and that in turn had me thinking about friends everywhere and how important making - and maintaining - contact is...
.
.
Shout out to @senselessthing, @nolanw69 and @mrsmacsee who have never met but I know would all get on. Much love to you all❤❤❤

#MedalMonday ... well, #welshslatecoaster Monday at any rate😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Had a cracking time in #Wales for @marathoneryri over the weekend, a beautiful and challenging route in the most spectacular scenery ⛰️
.
.
So many photos, so many people...a quickish (2'17) first half and I was feeling pretty good, running well within myself despite no training and a dodgy knee😳😂 Even managed to run the whole way from the start to the top of Pen Y Pas😊 Second half much slower as the longer hills appeared and my knee flexion lessened but I was delighted to get round in under 5h30, at the start I thought I'd be pleased to finish in six hours given its tough, hilly reputation
.
.
Brilliant to meet @witheredhand pal @nolanw69 at mile 8, exactly where he'd promised he'd be...his beaming smile, Withered Hand tee and shout of "go on Bryan!" and ace chat brought a real smile to my face and a wee spring to my step😊
.
.
Don't think I've smiled so much in a race, the views were out of this world, lovely to see a field full of toty wee horses too, don't know if they were Welsh ponies or Shetlands 🤷🏻 and the support on course, even in the back of beyond, was amazing. Massive shout out to the volunteers and their amazing kids too at all the water stops and the final tea stop (yes, with biscuits!) at mile 24 before the final descent (last video)☕🍪
.
.
As I picked up speed on the VERY steep last mile on trashed quads and a throbbing knee I hit the tarmac at mile 26 on #Llanberis high st, woman running alongside shouted "sprint" so I did...which resulted in a ridiculously fast last couple of hundred metres and me hurling into my foil blanket at the end😳🤢😂
.
.
10/10 Wales and #MarathonEryri, entering the ballot for 2024 for sure!
