Let's talk about something that doesn't come up enough in van life content, especially for folks retiring into this lifestyle. Everyone talks about solar setups and bed layouts. Almost nobody talks about the stuff that actually keeps you safe out there.

First: if you're on a Medicare Advantage plan, it's usually tied to a service region back home. That's fine for emergencies, Medicare covers those anywhere, but for anything routine, a prescription refill, a follow-up appointment, you could be paying full price three states away. A lot of full-timers end up switching to Original Medicare plus a Medigap supplement before they hit the road, specifically because it travels with them nationwide. Worth calling Medicare or a SHIP counselor and asking about this before you buy the van, not after.

Second: if something happens to you alone on the road, does your medical information travel with your body? A wallet card or the medical ID feature on your phone's lock screen is what a paramedic checks first, faster than any folder of paperwork sitting in a drawer back home. Worth looking into what your state's portable directive is called and getting it set up before you leave.

Third: someone who loves you should always have a rough idea where you are. A daily check-in text or a location-sharing app you turn on when you're solo means a missed check-in gets noticed in hours, not days.

None of this costs much or takes up cargo space. It's just the kind of homework that makes the whole thing sustainable instead of just adventurous.

One of the things I said when I started a camper van business was that I hoped it would expose me to unique people and experiences..and Nomad Be Happy has been all that and more! This past weekend Sloane and I flew to NYC to pick up Roamer after a special adventure that started in Atlanta and finished in Times Square. We usually don’t do one way rentals but for the right price we are open to it! If our renters want to make it happen we are ready for the adventure! We still can’t disclose the V.I.P.s that rented Roamer but we hope to have some fun content to share soon in Sept/Oct.#nomadbehappy #vanDOit #NYC #adventurevan #grateful

The Chattanooga Outdoor Festival was never just about vendors, gear, or even the music.

It’s about bringing Chattanooga’s outdoor community together into one shared space — riders, climbers, runners, paddlers, families, weekend warriors, and curious first-timers.

It’s about celebrating Chattanooga's vibrant outdoor culture and economy, the businesses that support the nonprofits that support conservation and recreation, and the people behind the scenes who make Chattanooga the best place to live, work and play!

We believe outside is better together.
And this festival is our way of proving it.

See you out there. 🌄

❄️ Winter camping is magical and cozy and warm when you are riding with Roamer 🚐 ! Abby & Emily experienced an awesome winter camping adventure and stayed cozy by the fire 🔥 and then enjoyed the super warm heater in the van 🚐 That’s a winter ❄️ camping overnight like no other. And they did it with their best furry friends too 🐶 ! We love being dog friendly so renters don’t have to leave their furry friends behind. The heater runs on gas and requires no hook ups so you can go off grid and stay warm with just the push of a button! It couldn’t be easier. Thanks for riding with us Abby & Emily, we love to see people embrace the outdoors even in January! @abbyinlights @nomad_be_happy @vandoitco #atlantacampervanrental #nomadbehappy #dogfriendly #wintercamping #vandoitco
