I consider myself very lucky. My childhood summers were spent on our family yacht, Sappho - a graceful, wooden beauty built in the ‘70s. My parents, with their perfectly worn-in leather boat shoes and sun-kissed faces, would steer us out into the open ocean, where we’d feast on freshly caught fish eaten off taupe-coloured plastic plates and the sea salt crisp in our hair. These memories are etched in my mind, and now, looking back as an adult, I can’t help but romanticise those carefree days and how wonderful they were. I wish I could go back and appreciate it all just a little bit more!

En esos días curiosos de la introspección, de consolidar todos los posts its mentales que quedan después de un año de la revisión de los prejuicios, hay unas reconciliaciones que parecen antinaturales. Las visiones de uno mismo que cambian forzadas por la necesidad, un instinto de supervivencia que deja de pretender sobrevivir para realmente entender lo que significa estar en el aquí y en el ahora. Una carta blanca a las sonrisas, a lo sexy, a entenderme como un ser parte de la conversación; un rechazo tácito a la perspectiva de rebeldía que nos acompañó por tantos años, un desapego de la contracultura que narró la habitación del ostracismo, como una justificación para lo que resultaba tan distinto cambiar y, en consecuencia, entender. Una invitación constante a pertenecer desde la honestidad, a salir de la profesionalización inherente a la búsqueda de una voz, a la relevancia del hacer sin decir, del estar por estar. Y abrazar las realidades incómodas desde los anhelos reales, el querer ser narrado por una voz distinta, y simplemente ser en el cuero que me tocó. Asumir que los sueños vienen con el vacío de la paciencia, a que el movimiento puede o no ser una respuesta, y a permitir que el mundo suceda si me narro a mí mismo con menos filtros. Lo sigo aprendiendo, lo sigo viviendo desde la sensatez, sigo queriendo pertenecer con más corazón que cabeza. Y sigo disfrutando de los resultados, mientras me acostumbro a entenderme como parte de un todo que me ata a un mundo más grande que yo. Y esto es una oda a la intimidad del carrete cuando cuento el mundo desde la casualidad.
