So much fun!
High impact, greatly important - the children who make Abby’s House home now have a wonderful playground of their own!

Today.
I will listen as more than 800 names are called; a ‘procession’ of people across a stage. There will be pockets of clapping, cheers, whoops of joy and celebration.
And, for me, as the congratulatory noise rises to a crescendo; I will become even more quiet, filled with emotion.
Yes, I will be ready to rise, to give a private and personal standing ovation.
13 extraordinary people. Brilliant in their intelligence, their academics. 13 people who live compassion; who have fully embraced “women and me for others”
And I will reflect back.
Interns. Two interns who spent considerable time with us. Two people who - I hope - learned with us at United Way. Two people who contributed, who made our United Way better.
11 people; some whom I have know almost four years, a few whom I just met this past April.
The common denominator, the uniting factor - Working For Worcester - SHCAB.
I am so deeply proud of these graduates, proud of their embracing of community, proud of their involvement, proud of their work, proud of their leadership.
Simply, I will miss them. Terribly.
I hold close memories of the past years;
Group breakfasts at Culpeppers or Altea’s; meetings of the Community Advisory Committee, planning sessions, texts and phone calls, the W4W banquets.
Shovels - digging footing holes (30 inches deep, 12 inches wide); spreading yards upon yards of wood chips; filling big black 50 gallon bags with the detritus of uncared for streets and lots.
Paint - gallons; GALLONS of paint.
Quikrete. Quikrete? 80 pound bags of fast-drying concrete. Awful stuff - heavy too.
But.
But mostly I will miss the easy conversations had over and during this work. The easy questions of getting to know amazing people, and the larger questions too.
It will be hard. Hard for me to say goodbye. Hard to stay in touch as time passes.

You have given your hearts to this community, to this city; you have created hope and opportunity for children and families.
You have touched my soul and I am oh so very THANKFUL for you.

Build Day.
Hard rain did not deter amazing volunteers.
