Norell Ward, a Marketing and New Media major from Newport, Maine, chose the Maine Business School because of its strong focus on experiential learning and hands-on business experience. This summer, she’s building on what she’s learned in the classroom through the Innovate for Maine Fellows Program and an internship with Maine start-up, Oat Mode. What are your internship tasks? I’m interning with a startup called Oat Mode as they work towards opening their first location in Portland. My primary responsibilities are designing, building, and launching a scalable website for the company. How will this experience help you as you move forward in your career? This internship has given me confidence in my ability to contribute to real business projects and take ownership of important responsibilities. It’s strengthened both my technical and professional skills and has shown me where I can improve, so that I am more confident heading into the workforce post-grad. Career connections were in full swing at the first-ever MBS Internship & Career Fair! Over 25 employers filled the DPC Atrium, meeting hundreds of students eager to learn, network, and explore their next steps. The energy was electric from start to finish! ⚡ 💬 “This event is two-fold for Sunday River; short-term for hiring seasonal positions for the upcoming winter, and long-term for making connections for future internships and career paths,” said Jessica Haight from Sunday River. 💬 Matt Gillam from Sappi added, “The energy throughout the event was vibrant and engaging, with a strong turnout of motivated students eager to learn about career opportunities. Sappi recently invested over $450 million into the Somerset Mill and is proud to support the next generation of problem solvers—with internships in IT, marketing, and inside sales.” MBS students showed up prepared, dressed professionally, and ready to network. Employers shared how impressed they were by the enthusiasm and professionalism students brought to each conversation. The energy and enthusiasm from both students and employers made this a must-do event! 📸 by @andie.lovejoy @university.of.maine @umaine.careercenter #businessblackbears #mbsinterns

Handshakes. Small talk. Silverware. What do they all have in common? They were part of the learning (and the fun!) at our Doing Business at Dinner etiquette event. Hosted at the Buchanan Alumni House, this three-course dinner gave MBS students the chance to practice professional dining skills in a real-world setting—led by etiquette expert Jean Papalia of A+ Etiquette. Students walked away with: ✔️Confidence in professional introductions & handshakes ✔️Tips for navigating any dining situation (yes, even bread plates!) ✔️ New friends and networking connections 💬 Taryn, a senior, said: “It’s not about the food—it’s about the connections.” 💬 Logan, a first-year, shared: “This was my first professional event at MBS, and I loved how hands-on it was.” These skills will serve our students long after graduation—whether at interviews, networking events, or business dinners. Huge thanks to Jean for sharing her expertise and to all the students who came ready to learn, practice, and grow! 🚍 Exploring Careers, Building Connections! The Portland Bear Treks took UMaine Business students behind the scenes at @hannafordmkts and @wexatwork, offering a firsthand look at corporate life, career opportunities, and invaluable networking with UMaine alumni. At Hannaford, students toured the newly redesigned headquarters, learning how the company blends modern workspaces with its rich history. At Wex, they engaged in a dynamic panel discussion and even took part in a Shark Tank-style challenge! 💡 Why does this matter? These experiences help students explore industries, connect with professionals, and gain insights into their future careers. A huge THANK YOU to our UMaine alumni and corporate partners for making this experience possible! 👏💙 Click the link in our bio to read all about it! @university.of.maine @umainealumni #aacsb #businessblackbears
