Everyone thinks they know Nebraska… until they get off the pavement.

Most people see Nebraska as two big cities, endless cornfields, and miles of interstate. And honestly, I get it. That’s what a lot of people see. But there’s another side to this state that deserves to be explored.

Out west, the cornfields give way to thousands of acres of open grasslands, rolling landscapes, forgotten dirt roads, and pockets of wilderness just waiting to be explored again.

So I gave myself one goal on this adventure: open up NoRoads, start connecting the dots along the backroads of western Nebraska, stay off the concrete as much as possible, and see what I could find along the way. No set itinerary. No guarantees of what was around the next bend. Just NoRoads, a Jeep, and the freedom to explore.

And hopefully, somewhere along the way, a campsite worth staying at.

Nebraska has more to explore than you think. You just have to be willing to take the road less traveled. #NebraskaOverland #OverlandAdventure #ExploreNebraska #BackroadExploration

The first-ever Maverick Adventure Rally was one for the books! 🔥🏔️

There’s something pretty epic about having FOUR Ford Mavericks together, navigating rugged trails, hugging the side of a cliff, and proving just how capable these little trucks really are!

But as incredible as the trails and scenery were, the best part was the people. Hanging out, swapping stories, checking out each other’s builds, talking gear, and sharing a passion for adventure with people who just get it.

Four Mavericks. Four different builds. One incredible adventure.

This is what overlanding is all about. It’s not just the places you go or the vehicles you drive. It’s the friendships you build and the memories you make along the way.

The first Maverick Adventure Rally might be in the books, but something tells me this is just the beginning! 🤘

Who else would love to be part of the next one? 👀

I know everyone has their own opinion about which off-road mapping app is the best, and God knows there are plenty to choose from these days.

You have everything from free apps to the big names that just about every overlanding YouTuber seems to promote. And of course, I have my favorite too.

Mine is NOROADS.

One of the features I really enjoy is being able to follow friends live on the map and letting them follow me whenever I choose to share my location. That’s pretty cool, especially when you’re traveling with a group.

But what really sold me on the app is something much simpler. The maps are clean and easy to read!

One of my biggest complaints about some of the other apps is how ridiculously busy the screen can get. Layers on top of layers, icons everywhere, and half the time I find myself trying to figure out what I’m looking at.

Sometimes I just want to see what trails are around me, where they go, and whether there’s a good place to camp somewhere along the way. I don’t need a hundred things fighting for my attention.

GAIA used to be the king of simplicity, in my opinion. It’s still a great app, but honestly, some parts of it feel like they haven’t changed much since 2015.

Anyway, I’m not here to convince anyone to switch apps. Use whatever works for you. I’m just sharing what works for me after spending countless days exploring trails and camping in the middle of nowhere.

And before someone asks, I don’t get a penny, free membership, or any kind of kickback for recommending NOROADS. I actually use it on every trip.

If you decide to give it a try, look me up at @theloneoverlander. Feel free to check out my campsites and save any locations you like. I’ve spent a lot of time finding some of those spots, and I’m happy to share them with fellow travelers.

At the end of the day, the best mapping app is the one that gets you out exploring instead of staring at your phone. 😂🏕️

Rasta Dog & I are FINALLY back on the @noroads.app and heading out for a few days of some much-needed R&R.

Have we planned anything? Absolutely not.

Have we spent an unreasonable amount of time, money, sweat, and probably a few years off our lives getting the Jeep sorted? You bet.

We’ve been working, stressing, fixing, and doing all the things… so now it’s time to unplug, get out there, and remember why we do all this in the first place.

We’ve got one area in mind, a whole lot of nothing planned, and absolutely no idea what we’ll get ourselves into. Honestly, that’s kind of the point.

Here’s to slow mornings, sandy roads, questionable decisions, and a few days of just being out there. #overlanding #camping #offroad #noroads

I’ll probably always love a traditional campfire.

The smell of the wood. The crackling. The way everyone naturally gathers around it once the sun goes down.

But the more I travel, the more I’ve started appreciating simplicity.

Sometimes I don’t want to gather wood, fight smoke all night, or spend extra time making sure every last coal is out.

Sometimes I just want the fire.

That’s why I’ve been using the RTE Firefold more and more. It packs down small, sets up fast, and gives me the part of a campfire I actually came for—the warmth, the atmosphere, and a reason to slow down for a while.

Traditional fires still have their place.

But on the nights when I want simple…

this is hard to beat.

I’ve realized my idea of “going out” has changed a lot over the years.

I’m not looking for packed bars, crowded restaurants, or somewhere with a line out the door.

Give me a dirt road, a quiet campsite, a fire, some good company, and just enough cell service to let everyone know I made it… before it disappears completely. 😂

There’s something about getting far enough away that the notifications stop, the noise disappears, and life feels a little simpler.

Maybe I still like going out…
I just prefer going WAY out. 😂

Anyone else?

The RTE Firefold has quickly become one of those pieces of gear I don’t want to camp without. 🔥

Compact, ridiculously easy to set up, and there’s just something about having a real fire at camp that completely changes the atmosphere. Whether I’m winding down after a day on the trail or just sitting around enjoying the middle of nowhere, the Firefold gets used.

Simple gear. Good fire. Great views. That’s hard to beat.

We are really enjoying using and helping further develop the @noroads.app! Pre-planning routes before we get off the grid and buddy tracking has been a game changer. CarPlay integration was just launched as well. Shout out to the engineering team who are excited to do things different, more fun coming soon! #noroads
