Last week at Wondercon I got to meet one of my favorite artists of all time. I was 10 when I grabbed Silver Surfer 54. I saw the Rhino on the cover from my already established love of Spider-Man, and discovered the Silver Surfer. In the top right corner was something that said “An Infinity Gauntlet Crossover”. I asked the guy at the bookstore what that meant. He showed me Infinity Gauntlet 4. I couldn’t believe what I saw. All the Marvel heroes crossing over. Hooked. Ron Lim the artist on both.

I fan boy’d out at first meeting him and then we chatted for quite a while about his art, the infinity gauntlet comics and MCU adaptations. We shared the pain of what he called the “character assassination” of Adam Warlock. Was so lucky to buy a couple pieces of art from him and get some books signed.

Love the way this shot came out! No filters just the way the camera took the lighting from his chest.

Afternoon collection selection! Silver Surfer, vol. 3 #135 (January 1998) by J. M. DeMatteis (#dematteisquest), Tom Grummett, and Matt Ryan. Cover by Grummett/Ryan! The Surfer is dying, somehow. Can the Scrier save him…and who is the Scrier? What about Agatha Harkness? And the Thing is headed back from the Heroes Reborn pocket universe. Will this screw up Surfy’s developing romantic relationship with Thing lady-love Alicia Masters? Mine in the Silver Surfer: Inner Demons Epic Collection. Bought/read 2019, age 46! #silversurfer #jmdematteis #tomgrummett #mattryan

They’ve come to Earth to meet their messiah (Surfy)—and old Puppet Master lures him in. But Surfy doesn’t want to be a messiah—and he flips his lid, blasting things left and right…and killing the Puppet Master?!?! Surfy and PM’s daughter Alicia were circling each other for a romance…but will this screw things up? Afternoon collection selection! Silver Surfer vol 3 #128 (May 1997) by J. M. DeMatteis (#dematteisquest), Ron Garney, Rick Leonardi, and Bob Wiacek. Cover by Garney! The Surfer has a final showdown with Alicia’s pops, the Puppet Master. The Puppet Master made a dummy Surfer, but the OG gives it life with the Power Cosmic. The Surfer is still without his emotions and he doesn’t like it. He starts torching NYC. Spidey and Daredevil try to stop him…but that ain’t gonna work. Can Norrin Radd help? But isn’t that the surfer himself? Mine in the Silver Surfer: Inner Demons Epic Collection, bought/read in 2019, age 46! #silversurfer #jmdematteis #rongarney #bobwiacek

Morning collection selection! Silver Surfer vol 3 #125 (February 1997) by Glenn Greenberg, J. M. DeMatteis (#dematteisquest), Ron Garney and Bob Wiacek. Cover by Garney! It’s an oversized issue with a wraparound cover—in which Surfy battles the Hulk, his ex-teammate in the Defenders! Luckily he has the power cosmic—but Hulk has those gamma rays! Dr. Strange (another Defender) also makes an appearance. There’s also a backup by James Felder, Bryan Hitch and Art Thibert. It’s about Christmas! Mine in the Silver Surfer: Inner Demons Epic Collection, bought/read in 2019, age 46! #silversurfer #glenngreenberg #rongarney #bobwiacek #jmdematteis #jamesfelder #bryanhitch #artthibert

Evening collection selection! Silver Surfer vol 3 #124 (January 1997) by Glenn Greenberg, Ed Benes, Adriana Melo, and Eddie Wagner. Cover by Benes! Ol’ Norrin (Radd, the Silver Surfer) comes face to face with Kymaera (formerly Namorita?!) of the New Warriors! Surfy seeks council from his ex-teammate in the Defenders, Namor, after his homeworld of Zenn-La was destroyed. But Namor is gone, or dead, or both! Surfy chats with and struggles with Kymera and her Atlantean followers, before being attacked by the Predator (aka Bounty) that sought him out last ish. Surfy battles him with some very ‘90s art! Mine in the Silver Surfer: Inner Demons Epic Collection, bought/read in 2019, age 46! #silversurfer #glenngreenberg #edbenes #adrianamelo #eddiewagner
