During Child Loss Awareness Month, we're sharing a powerful reminder that even in life's hardest moments, love endures and healing can take many forms. 💙

For Natasha, a former Maple Grove Hospital team member, this journey is deeply personal. In 2022, Natasha returned to Maple Grove Hospital to deliver her identical twin boys, Gage and Tanner and after nine precious days, Natasha and her family said goodbye to Tanner following a sudden medical complication.

“We were in a time of grieving and joy at the same time – saying goodbye and hello all within 12 hours,” Natasha recalls. “Maple Grove Hospital staff went above and beyond, allowing family to visit Gage, even during COVID restrictions. That support meant everything to us.”

Today, Natasha honors her son’s memory by writing children's books, including her most recent “The Three Little Cowboys,” offering hope and connection for parents during their most challenging days, including those in our NICU.

“It’s an amazing feeling knowing families can find even a small moment of joy through these books,” Natasha says. “Part of my healing has been helping others heal.”

Yesterday, we were honored to attend the Ralph Rossen Award for Excellence in Nursing and I also had the opportunity to speak about Dr. Rossen's legacy and how I carry forward his work through my advocacy.

He wasn't just a doctor to me, he was my grandfather. And though he passed when I was only three years old, his work was legendary:

He left pediatrics because he could not handle watching kids die of polio. He became a neurologist and psychiatrist.

As a psychiatrist, he changed the mental health system in Minnesota, freeing patients from chains, treating them like humans, restoring their dignity.

And here I am, fifty plus years after his death, working to restore vaccine rates so polio does not mar another generation; so we do not lose any more kids to vaccine preventable illness.

And here I am, fifty plus years after his death, working to end the stigma surrounding mental illness.

And here I am, fifty plus years later, in a room full of nurses being recognized for offering the same compassion and dignity to patients as he did.

Thank you to @northmemorial for keeping my grandfather's legend and legacy alive for 41 years so far, and for hosting an incredibly lovely event. I can't wait to meet next year's cohort of nominees!

Michael is a beloved member of our nutrition team at North - Maple Grove Hospital known for his warm smile, positive attitude, and dedication to our patients. Through his work with a job coach at @opportunitypartners, Michael brings confidence, compassion, and joy to everything he does.

Recently, Michael was nominated for Opportunity Partners' Ray of Sunshine Award, an honor that recognizes individuals who brighten the lives of those around them through positivity and kindness. He truly embodies our mission and values, and we're grateful to have him as a part of our team and for the impact he has in our community.

We are officially able to announce a really amazing opportunity for all of us. We have a meeting coming up on October 23rd, 2026 at 2pm CST where General President, Ed Kelly and General Secretary Treasurer, Frank Lima of the International Association of Fire Fighters union will be logging on to a Zoom meeting that is open to all NMAS EMTs & Paramedics! We will collect questions ahead of time and the meeting will be an absolute wealth of information, especially for those of you that are just joining and hoping to get caught up! We will not talk about our specific goals, contracts, or hurdles at the meeting but will use it as an education opportunity for us to learn more about the IAFF from the IAFF themselves. We will also have MPFF Executive Board Members present and IAFF 5th District Vice-President, Mahlon Mitchell.

Friday was a very special day at our NICU. After 334 days, Adonis, our longest NICU resident at North - Maple Grove Hospital, is finally home! ♥️

This milestone is a testament to the skill, dedication, and compassion of our NICU care team, who provide world-class care for the tiniest and most fragile lives. We're truly honored that families trust us during these critical moments.

This time last year I was packing up gifts bags for L&D nurses (and postpartum nurses too!)

Ideas for gifts: grab and go snacks, high protein snacks, hair ties, claw clips, lip balm (I used @honeybeehippie), treats (@unreal.snacks 😘😘) energy drinks, pens, hand lotion.

If you’re a nurse, leave a comment with some of your favorite things to receive. And thanks for not judging me when I scream like a wild animal in child birth 🤪🤣
