Mood Ring Studies - Vol. 1 “Blue”

Blue is more than a color, it’s a feeling. This is the beginning of a study that ties in two separate abstract concepts of emotion and color
Through old archives and forgotten photographs, I found pieces of myself hidden in every frame. Isolation, peace, reflection, and longing all woven together. The beauty of blue isn’t what it looks like, it’s what it makes us remember

SPRING dump/reflection 🌺🌸

You know I am no stranger when it comes to the transparency of my life to other people. A life lesson I have been struggling with this academic year is transparency with myself. For a long time it didn’t seem like be honest with myself really mattered as long as I was serving other people.

Last spring semester I was blessed with the amazing opportunity for all my dreams to come true with one scholarship. I felt like in all of these years I had finally achieved something life changing and my prayers had been answered. When I returned home last summer I was very humbled to return to the place I called home. I was grateful to see and be with my family, but ever since I’ve returned I feel like my family didn’t get the man they expected. My life, mind & soul have changed, and that’s what I left home to do because the man that existed before could not do what needed to be done. I was very surprised by the reality was my life when I came back home and desperately wanted to turn and run away from it.

When I finally got to return to my safe haven, Morehouse College, I was even more confused how life got so much harder. My prayers were supposed to be answered and I felt no real joy for a very long time. I put on the mask and kept pushing through but I wasn’t even going anywhere. I kept thinking about the life I escaped but also the people I left behind in that process. I left home to change not my life but my family’s but all they & I could witness around me was the change in my life. I’m grateful for my family & friends that did know my heart & reality, because they are the ones who pushed me forwarded. Starting & ending every phone call with your mom in tears because you just wish was here & safe with you. I didn’t realize how much I hated myself for changing my life, because to me it wasn’t worth it unless my family got to enjoy it.

Motherland Africa has an abundance for the world, but for her children she only has the truth. I’ve accepted the truth of my life and I’ve also accepted the words I needed to hear.
