My dad, Farren Mayfield, will be playing at the Tahlequah Farmers Market until noon! Maribel has Nutella tamales with chocolate today! I finally got here early enough to try one of their dessert tamales. It’s delicious! Burning Bush Farms has the best kombucha! If you bring your own container (or bring a Mason jar you previously got last time from them like I did), you’ll only have to pay $10 for a refill. I got the pineapple flavor this time. I’d rather pay $10 for a quart size kombucha that someone locally made rather than get it at the store. I requested my dad play Claire de Lune. It brings back memories of him playing it at the house when I was little every time I hear it. Bear Creek Troupe is playing today at the library for Sparksfest at 1:15 too! #classicalmusic #piano #kombucha #nutella

The 2026 NSU RiverHawk Pre-Audition Junior High Choral Workshop was 🔥.

Over 200 student singers from 18 different schools!!!

These free, one-day workshops serve students from big and small schools and don't happen without the help of great colleagues like @nostrafrog , @moorealid , @lambert_yongjae_lee_ , and George Hilligoss.

Many thanks to the directors who also chipped in their expertise during sectionals and all who entrusted these young singers' voices and music preparation to us. I hope today was helpful and wish them all the best for their auditions. The University Singers were all big helpers on stage, in sectional rooms, with crowd control, and as building escorts. I can't wait to do it again in a couple of weeks with the high school singers!

My dad & I went to the renaissance faire, @castleofmuskogee yesterday! The last time I went with him was in 2011. My brother was here then and went with us. Ren faire fried potatoes are awesome! Cappuccino Inn has good coffee and Italian sodas! They were in a different place from last year. Got a new sage green leather pouch and circlet. The circlet came from my friend who taught me how to make websites using Wordpress last year at NSU. Her store is called Prince Charming Jewelry. It’s the same place I got my green rose ear cuffs from. I also saw someone else I knew too. #renaissance #castleofmuskogee #jousting #fried #potatoes

NSU Trumpet Studio Recital for Spring 2026 is complete! Congratulations to all of these hardworking students. Each performer really went for it and played with a lot of musicality. The recoveries from minor mishaps were also quite admirable, which is a testament to their commitment to being performers in addition to being musicians. These students also have had a very big week of performances this past week. For many of them, this is the fourth concert in 6 days. They’ve been working, y’all. Proud teacher right here.

Congratulations to Tyson Byrd on the successful completion of his senior recital! Tyson has been a cornerstone of our studio for the past few years and I’m incredibly proud of his growth during his time at NSU. He started as a non-major who wanted to have trumpet lessons, but he ended up discovering his passion for music. Thank you for your hard work and leadership, Tyson. You are going to be missed here, but I’m excited for your future band students and all of your success. Go Hawks! 💚

Northeastern Noël, our annual holiday celebration at @nsumusic, was last night and it was such a special event. Congratulations to @justinkroll on coordinating, directing, and bringing new life into this concert. A huge thanks to all of my colleagues and to all of our musicians who contributed to this event. In particular, this was a special year for me because I had the chance to perform with my students in the Jazz Lab Ensemble, who have been such bright spot in my week this semester. As the semester approaches the end, I’m very tired but also very grateful for my students and colleagues. Music! Bravi tutti!

Congratulations to Music Education major Cory Edgar on an outstanding senior recital last night. Cory is a student of Dr. Joseph Bello and has been a crucial part of all of our instrumental ensembles for the past four years. He will begin his full internship next semester and graduate in May. Well done, Cory!

Tonight‘s NSU Music’s Halloween Recital was fun! My dad is amazing. He makes playing the piano look easy. I was impressed by Erlkönig as always! I did have a coughing fit during the last two songs I was on stage but I’m ok now. Music doesn’t belong to me. (Oh and yes, my dad’s lightsaber does change colors and has different sounds.)

The NSU Opera Workshop Gala: Eine Nacht in Wien was fun! During one song, the singers banged on our tables and it put the people at my table into a laughing fit! 😂 Alles Gute zum Geburtstag Johann Strauss II! A
