From this past week with the Silkroad Ensemble: on stage with brilliant friend Rhiannon Giddens, landing in a field of sunflowers with the one and only Sandeep Das, and the whole band at the end of our show at Tanglewood’s Ozawa Hall. I always learn so much from this ever-inspiring and caring family of incredible musicians! Huge thanks to @tanglewoodmusicfestival, @skanfestival and Chautauqua festivals for having us, and to our amazing crew and staff for their heroic work behind the scenes. ❤️

“The Holy Presence of Joan d’Arc” was originally written for 10 cellos. I arranged it for bassoons from a miraculous transcription of a live performance (with Julius himself on cello) by @claricejensen

It can be played as a solo piece, or an ensemble piece (both versions are on my YouTube (link in bio))

The enigmatic @hanniliang in motion, beautifully captured by @claraevensphotography! Hanni wears our custom designed "Flag" Dress to perform @tree_wong She Dances Naked Under Palm Trees for solo piano.

This dress was inspired by the relentless persistence of the Suffragettes and the handmade flags and banners used in their strikingly staged demonstrations. Part of Spectacle, an interdisciplinary concert created with Tonhain in Berlin.

Thank you ✨ @timeofmusicfestival ✨and Viitasaari for an unforgettable time in your midst this past week! In between the Finnish premieres of @lizalimcomposer’s “Throat-Song” (Density vii), Annea Lockwood’s “Elwha” (Density xii), and @marcosbalter’s “Pan” (Density v — 📸 by @studiosavimaki) there were pink rainbows, smoke saunas, and enchanted midnight sunsets.

The absolute highlight for me, though, was working with the eight extraordinary young musicians in the “Environmental Dialogue” course that I got to co-teach with Annea. What a gift to witness you all make magic together. I can’t wait to follow everything you do next!
