Life is super weird. Sometimes one single conversation with a weird guy in a state park creates a domino effect that brings in an endless stream of wonderful people into your life. And sometimes the stars align, and you get to see several of them back to back.

thanks for the party weekend, friends.

10 am Sunday was 2 years since the last time i spoke to my mom. and 24 hours later she was gone.

I just spent 30 straight hour driving from Ohio to South Dakota and back, to pick up Orlyn.

The first time i brought home a random friend, i was 10. And my mom took her in like her own. This continued into my 20s. She was never phased to get up for work in the morning, and find 6 random men in their 20s scattered across our living room.

I forced Orlyn to listen to Chorus from start to finish for his first time. And as I drove, a moment popped into my mind I’ll never forget. I walked into my kitchen, and my mom was making biscuits and gravy for @theshowdownmetal. @rowdyrileyanglen had appointed himself to tour manage the biscuits, earning the very temporary nickname of “grandma riley” which my brain still thinks of him as today. And @7ravisbailey was grilling my mom, trying to find out how a yankee knew how to make gravy “the right way”.

it reminded me of my mom’s idea about family. Family are the people you choose, without obligation, to love. And anyone who is my family, was automatically hers.

without chorus, I wouldn’t have found my family in this scene. I wouldn’t have left my house 19 hours after finding out Orlyn needed a new environment, because i never would have met him. I wouldn’t have the family i have now. And without my mom’s unwavering heart to bring safety and a sense of home to everyone who crossed our threshold, i’m not sure the thought would have even crossed my mind.

To every person in this scene who has accepted me, or treated me as family, thank you. To everyone who has let me return that favor, thank you. To my mother, who taught me the real definition of family, and lived it authentically and dedicatedly, i will be forever grateful for instilling this in me as well.

Tomorrow will be hard. But I won’t be alone. I can’t tag everyone, but know i love you all
