Born 1980 in Kuala Lumpur, and based in Dubai, SYLVIA ONG (@sylviaong.studio ) is a contemporary artist with a successful background in cinematography and has recently held a range of important exhibitions internationally - within the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the USA to critical acclaim. Her vibrant and emotive abstract paintings can be described as lyrical, with the artist often citing direct inspiration from music in her work.

As with much of her work, Ong strives to inspire meaningful conversations between the viewer and canvas via her fluid form of visual storytelling. She invites viewers to allow her pieces to take them on a journey as the artist furthers: „When I listen to music, I feel the colours and the mood as if it was a film. From this point of view, I felt the desire to create art that gives one the sense of life being a journey. The space we pass through, the time we experience: Isn’t it as if we traveled along a piece of music, while following the slightest, brilliant nuance? In fact, with my paintings I would like to transport emotions, which fill the space and bring a new perspective to the world.“

Malaysian-born, Dubai-based artist Sylvia Ong’s (@sylviaong.studio) work aims art transcends mere beauty, delving into the realm of profound connection and higher states of being, as she explores the depths of her creative process.

In her artistic journey, Sylvia’s exploration of Earth’s frequencies or the Schumann Resonance theory informs her art, aiming to produce harmony and resonance, both visually and energetically. Through her work, she seeks to capture and convey these experiences, where the boundaries between the physical and the transcendent blur. Music accompanies her artistic journey, serving as a vital element that supports the emotional landscape and breathes life into her creations.

A series of paintings from Tengri: Star Seeds, the most recent show by @aiganagali at @esmb.gallery in Dubai.

✴

"Aigana Gali is a multidisciplinary artist who works across a wide range of media, from canvas and paper to textiles and bronze, in a dynamic process guided by the essential character of each series. Born on the ancient crossing of the Great Silk Road in Almaty, Kazakhstan, her rich cultural heritage is an infinite source to her work.

Gali’s paintings are invested with subtle historical or mythical references, just as the Saka buried treasures in the endless plains of the steppe. In relocating to London, Aigana explored ways to communicate and translate her cultural milieu, in particular the tonal shifts and vibrational quality of light found in the vast plains.

Over the past decade she has developed an important body of work, delineated by series: Creation Myth, Steppe and Tengri. Each representing a metaphorical chapter in her evolution as an artist and thinker, Gali adapts both technique and materials according to an essential, abstracted schematic. Luminous and beguiling, her works explore the mysterious forces - ancient wisdom, nature’s cycles and cosmic order - that shape our lives." -- @esmb.gallery
