Old homes are having a second life—as restaurants. From Goa’s Portuguese bungalows to Mumbai’s Bandra villas and Kolkata’s colonial mansions, a new generation of restaurants is making the house itself part of the experience. At Scarlett House Bombay, Dhaval Udeshi, Founder, DU Hospitality and Co-Founder, Scarlett House Bombay, says guests don’t experience it like a typical restaurant. They explore the rooms, staircase, old details, and hidden Red Room. “Mumbai has many beautiful restaurants, but Scarlett feels personal.” But the romance comes with its own complications. “Kitchens, services, storage, air-conditioning, plumbing, movement of staff—everything has to be planned without destroying what made you fall in love with the house,” says Dhaval. For fifteen years, Cafe Delhi Heights kept growing. The business evolved. But the identity still introduced it as something smaller than it had become. So we started with a simple question: What is Cafe Delhi Heights today? It’s not a cafe but “A big table restaurant” It’s a place where grandparents, parents and friends can all argue over what to order, because there’s something for everyone. A place with oversized plates, an unapologetically big menu and the loud, generous spirit of Delhi stitched into everything it does. The new identity embraces exactly that. A bolder wordmark with a quieter & concrete “Cafe”. An evolved cloud that carries fifteen years of equity forward. Symbols and tonality inspired by Delhi’s larger-than-life personality summed up in sticker format. Patterns borrowed from the city’s architectural language. And a visual system that feels human, imperfect and made by people & not machines. Sometimes a refresh isn’t about becoming someone new. Some places become part of your dining memories, and for many of us @cafedelhiheights is one of them. Celebrating 15 years, the brand has given its very first outlet at Cross Point Mall in Gurugram a fresh new look along with a revamped menu. The space feels brighter and more contemporary, while the menu reads almost like a book, divided into chapters by cuisine. I dropped by to check out the makeover and sampled a mix of new dishes, including the calamari, butter chicken tacos and the Mexican Veg Pizza topped with nachos. And of course, I couldn’t leave without ordering familiar favourites like the Juicy Lucy Burger and the ISBT Makhani Maggi. The cocktail menu is just as extensive. I especially loved that every cocktail comes with its ingredients and recipe, so you can even recreate your favourite at home. If it’s been a while since your last visit, this might just be the perfect excuse to head back.
