Film Screening: Every Acre Every Factory with Labournet TV and Angryworkers, hosted by Plan C

📍DNA Cafe Bar, 101 Kingsland High St, London E8
🗓️ 6-8pm Sunday Nov 15
🎫 (ticket link in our bio)

It is getting hot in our antechamber of barbarism, so much is clear. It's time to agree on a new political strategy. Time for a reconstitution of the communist project. ‘Every Acre, Every Factory’ is a film about how we can establish a sustainable mode of production and get rid of the current one. Comrades told us about their experiences of how the system was last challenged in the 1970s and how the state and capital managed to defeat the movement. Other comrades describe what the transition to a liberated society could look like. Workers who have been working in essential industries for decades explain what is harmful and pointless about their work and how it could be organised sensibly. From this thread of history, theoretical anticipation and everyday experience, we ask the question anew: What is to be done?

Disability and Work - Notes from Below & Marxism and Disability Roundtable on a forthcoming Issue in Notes from Below

Historical Materialism 2026 conference

Saturday, 7 Nov, 12:00pm - 1:45pm GMT

Check out NfBs previous issues: https://notesfrombelow.org/issues

Check out MDN's previous and future events and publications: https://marxismdisability.wordpress.com/

'This roundtable is co-organised by the Marxism and Disability Network and the Notes from Below Editorial Collective. It brings together the authors and editorial team of an upcoming issue in Notes from Below, on Work and Disability.

The event will give us the opportunity to briefly present some of the insights developed through the process of collaborating on this issue as well as the arguments the authors and editors have put forward in this issue.

This will be a hybrid event to ensure that as many disabled people as possible can access it - both for accessibility reasons and as a way of building community around this NfB issue and promoting it ahead of its launch.

We intend to hold space for approximately 6 brief contributions (5 minutes each) in response to prompting questions prepared by the organisers of the roundtable. The second half of the event (for half an hour) will be reserved for an open discussion with the audience members and the other contributors - to determine the steps we could take in preparation for and after the publication of this issue. Too often, disabled people overall are assumed not to be engaged in work - be it waged or unwaged, even though disabled workers are over-represented within precarious and feminised employment, and in the ranks of ‘informal carers’.

This issue will focus on the everyday realities of disablement, work and workplace organising.

Some of the questions we have invited contributors to reflect on include, for example:

🟠 What disablement-related struggles are currently under way within and across particular industries, countries, and/or other forms of social organisation?

🟠 How are disabled workers resisting disablist policies in their workplaces?

& more!

What can disabled workers and working class organisations (unions, parties, community groups) learn from contemporary disability struggles? How can all these struggles be connected? We intend to reflect on these questions at the event together, alongside addressing and building on the contributions of other audience members.

📢Join Notes From Below for a book launch and discussion on contemporary urban politics with Neil Gray, author of the newly released Take Over The City: Spatial Composition in Italian Autonomy @commonnotions !

🗓️ 6pm on Saturday 10th October at @pelican.house - snacks, a bar and spatial politics!

Full details and sign-up at luma.com/9kjkguyr (link in Notes From Below bio).

🏢 As we come together to learn about the revolutionary wave of urban occupations and campaigns of Italy's 1970s, we will also be joined by activists involved in campaigns and struggles to collectively make sense over the transformation of our cities and towns.

📑Joined by @maydayrooms for an archival display of the printed materials that circulated between Italy and the UK during this period of urban rebellion - come along to see this important collection of radical history!

📸The book launch coincides with the opening of a new, vast photography exhibition documenting Critical Mass in London on the first floor of Pelican House's event space. A leaderless murmuration of cyclists that has continued to dis-organise itself for monthly rides across London since 1994, @criticalmass_ldn has collectively moved through the city's boroughs in opposition to the all-powerful presence of cars and in an act of controlled chaos. This exhibition follows the highs, lows, community, challenges and potential that the ride has experienced across the years!

NEW PHOTO EXHIBITION - SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS 26th SEPTEMBER 2026!!

For those of you that missed the brief temporary exhibition at the "Londons Calling" warehouse rave in January 2026, there is a new (and more stable!) opportunity to submit to and view the large Critical Mass London photo collection, which has been collectively crowdsourced from participants over the years.

The exhibition will open on Friday 9th October at Pelican House in Bethnal Green. The Joy Collective will be running their Autumn fundraiser party (for Pelican) that night and you can get tickets from them. This party usually sells out quickly so if you want to go, act now!

The photo exhibition will also be viewable if you are attending the talk by Neil Gray, organised by Notes From Below, which is on Saturday 10th October. More info on this coming shortly.

If you just want to see the photos, there will be a group ride to Pelican House from the usual CM starting point on Sunday 11th October. Meet up at 1pm, leaving at 1:30pm. More promo for this will be coming soon.

If you have submitted photos before, you can still submit more photos, just taken since January 2026.

Submission form link is in my bio now! All photos welcome!

Greetings @fermenting.cultures family!

Can you help? Earlier this month, International House tenants, with support from The Stour Trust, Stir to Action @stirtoaction, and The Advocacy Academy @advocacycacdemy, submitted a nomination for International House in Brixton to be recognised as an Asset of Community Value.

International House is home to over 140 local social enterprises, charities, creative and community initiatives, and commercial businesses that serve Lambeth’s communities. It is under threat of redevelopment that will convert the building into luxury flats displacing its tenants (including @fermenting.cultures and @lambethlarder). This will have a significant impact on the Lambeth residents we serve. ❤️❤️❤️

If you live or work in Lambeth, please support the campaign by signing the petition to stop the sell-off. We’re nearly there, we need at least 1,000 signatures. Please share! Link in the bio. Blessings!🔥🔥🔥 Image of red brick office block against blue sky

Greetings from @fermenting.cultures HQ!

It’s Virginia here. Our thoughts go to the family of Professor Jason Arday after his death following relentless hounding from the British press. It is impossible to comprehend what he, and they, have suffered.

249 negative articles in 22 days, even though he was exonerated over any claims of plagiarism in relation to his PhD thesis. The hounding continued, despite warnings from experts giving scientific evidence of the vulnerabilities of neurodivergent people to suicide. The British press needs to be held to account (again).

Black, working class, neurodivergent, intelligent; the intersections of which should be a cause for celebration. Yet, in this context they were a deadly combination. As fully paid-up member of this exclusive club, I did my time in academia (PhD and all), before realising that this was not a space for me to thrive.

I am appalled at this waste of a precious life. I am disgusted by the role of the British press in amplifying the hate – that includes you @guardian.

In the week when young people across the country received their exam results with hopes of securing better futures for themselves, what does this sorry situation tell us about how we value Black excellence, working class intelligence, neurodivergent achievement? It is time for our universities, the press, and wider society to self-reflect.

Stand Up to Racism @standuptoracismuk is holding a vigil tomorrow 17th August at 6pm in Trafalgar Square for Professor Jason Arday. If you are in London, come, let us grieve together. 💔💔💔 Black background with white text

Notes from Below Issue 27: Workers' Inquiry: The Politics of a Method
https://notesfrombelow.org/issue/workers-inquiry-the-politics-of-a-method

This issue of Notes from Below focuses on the politics of workers inquiry. For us, it is the method that can begin to lay the foundations for a new practice: beginning with the actual experience of capitalist exploitation in the workplace, but also with the technical knowledge needed to transform society. The aim is to support the emergence of new centres of rank-and-file activity and link these up into a larger movement. This issue reflects on both the politics and the method of putting this into practice.

Launch of Notes from Below, Issue 27: Workers' Inquiry Friday 14 August in London
