🖤Nothe Fort🖤 A great rainy day activity that’s 100% dog friendly everywhere! 🌧️

This place has some serious history! Completed in 1869 as a Victorian coastal defence in Weymouth, it later served in WWII and was then abandoned in 1956. Local kids actually used it as a hangout before it was restored in 1980 to become the museum it is today. A secret Cold War nuclear bunker was also built deep underground in the ‘80s!

We loved exploring the underground tunnels, especially the ghost tunnel 👻 (See video at the end.) Apparently dogs sometimes refuse to go in there! 🐾

Recently our Level 3 Travel & Tourism students took a visit to the @nothe_fort

A big thanks to Isobel Campbell, Visitor Services Manager and Amanda Dukes, Deputy General Manager, who welcomed our students and shared their knowledge and experience about the fort and the success story on how the award-winning fort has developed and how it became Weymouth's number 2 attraction on Trip Advisor🌟

A couple image highlights from a trip into Weymouth today, which actually involved getting off the train at Upwey and walking the last leg via the Lorton Meadows Nature Reserve and Gateway Shopping District.

The Nature Reserve was an area we'd never explored before and to be honest, it didn't even look like at times that we were anywhere near Weymouth for a moment. It was certainly a great find and probably worth a trip back to it at some point in the future.

A little further on, as passing by the Weymouth Bay Miniature Railway, we made it to the beach where we had lunch, followed up by a walk along to the area around the pavilion, including going onto a small nearby pier that I'd never been on before, providing a new perspective on the view out to sea. Afterwards, we would walk around the harbour and eventually back to Weymouth station to catch the train homing, concluding a rather pleasurable trip down here.

I was pleased to support Nothe Fort in the design of the new exhibition Hidden in Plain Sight: Lives Shaped by the Cold War! ☢️

The exhibition shares the stories of people associated with Nothe Fort when it was used as a nuclear bunker in the 1980s.

As well as helping to plan the exhibition layout, I made the signage and illustration for print. The mastermind behind the exhibition is Lucy Watkins who undertook fantastic, original research in the form of interviews that contribute to an atmospheric soundscape in the space.

This is a temporary preview exhibition for which feedback is being gathered to inform future development.

This year’s Nothe of the Living Dead event at @nothe_fort , The Freak Circus, combines jump scares, immersive theatre and escape dungeon-style challenges and puzzles in an hour-long experience that sees participants attempt to escape. Have you got what it takes to secure the final remaining vaccine before the zombie infection takes hold… or will you become the circus’s newest permanent attraction?

What an opportunity! 🏰

Recently I was lucky enough to work for the multi award winning @nothe_fort.

After an initial inspection to fault find a huge loss in water pressure in the communal bathrooms, I managed to diagnose and replace a faulty booster pump to make sure that the Nothe Fort can continue to offer their excellent facilities to all of their visitors.

Couldn’t resist the photo of little Londo Norris in the parade ground! 🏎️ 🏰

Huge congratulations go to James and Emma who were married in September at @nothe_fort 🥂

Lucy, our 1974 wedding campervan transported Emma and her bridesmaid to the venue and the happy couple to their reception.

We love this venue! We’ve driven weddings there a couple of times before and it’s such an incredible place to hold a wedding.
The happy couple even had a canon salute after their ceremony!

Lucy was dressed in James and Emma’s choice of Autumnal orange/yellow ribbons and faux florals 🍂

We hope Emma and James had a fantastic day and wish them every happiness for the future! 🧡
