My first Senior medal 🥉 (after being MIA for 2 years…)

Everything leading up to this weekend had gone wrong. After taking a step back from serious international fencing following the Olympics, I was finally back on the circuit, only to catch a fever on my flight to Oran. After 8 hours of shaking, sweating and freezing, I slept for 15 hours straight and still struggled to wake up on competition day 😅 I barely made it out of the first round and qualified for day two by one touch. A great start to my senior return ☠️

Day two came with its own chaos (a long list I don’t want to get into), and at some point, I realized classical music was playing in my headphones. I laughed to myself because I was about to fence the world’s second seed, felt like a complete mess, and somehow had classical music playing instead of the energetic music I probably should’ve been listening to. Maybe that was the vibe though. If everything else had gone wrong over the past three days, what else could? So I just went onto the strip, smiled to myself, and fenced.

It ended up being one of the most wonderful feelings. I felt free, in control of my actions and ideas, and genuinely enjoyed each bout. A friend watching from home said it was scary how calm I was. Somehow, after a weekend with almost nothing going right, I won my first Senior medal.

Thank you to God, my family, my Notre Dame teammates and family @notredamefencing, coach @christianrascioni, my @usafencing teammates and @dagmarawozniak, and of course @ofafencing and my dad/coach for always being in my corner.

Huge thanks to @absolutefencing for always having my back with the best equipment, @azzafencing for the best shoes🤍

and ofc, @photopavia 📸🫶🏻

Excited to be back on the international circuit and looking forward to the journey ahead :)

Idk if you know this but @chase_emmer and @zanderrrhodes are cousins.

And after Zander took the gold medal for Div 1E WF, she told Chase to step up.

He did.
