It’s been three years now since I first set sail on this journey, and honestly, I barely recognize the girl who began it. If someone asked me to introduce the Richa from back then, I’d probably stammer through it.

Choosing a DU college wasn’t exactly the conventional route for someone from my background. The fifteen-year-old me—or maybe the version shaped by everyone else—only ever thought about medicine or engineering. Or was made to. But while filling out my preference list, I just knew I’d land at Hansraj. I could feel it. I think I even manifested it.

Back then, I had my heart set on the dramatics society. Something about nukkad nataks and street plays pulled me in. I always imagined myself diving into DU’s buzzing society culture, and theatre felt like my calling. But life, as always, had other plans. In a completely unexpected twist, I ended up becoming the President of @oorja_hrc—the Western and Street Dance Society of Hansraj College—in my third year.

I still remember my first day of college. November 2nd, 2022. I walked into class with a BL manhwa in my hands, pretending to look all nonchalant and mysterious. I didn’t know a thing about economics, the subject I’d eventually major in. And history? My minor? Let’s just say it wasn’t love at first (or second or third) sight.

That version of me slowly faded, and a new one took her place—someone who found her way into a world I’d never even imagined: the Delhi Dance Circuit. After auditioning for Oorja, I didn’t have an ounce of energy left to try out for dramatics. So I stayed. And unknowingly stepped into something that would shape the next three years of my life in ways I couldn’t have foreseen.

What followed was a blur of rehearsals, competitions, endless metro rides, sore muscles, night-outs, breakdowns, breakthroughs, and a kind of love I’d never felt before—for a team, for a stage, for a version of me I didn’t know existed.

I love Hansraj. For the people it gave me. The memories. The chaos. The chances I took. The growth I never expected. I found myself here—in stairwells, in practice spots, under harsh stage lights, in laughter-filled cab rides. And it was all magical.
