We are honored to share our latest permanent public artwork, which was installed this July in Seattle, WA.
“Storm Boogie” celebrates the spirit of teamwork and play at the headquarters of @WNBA team @SeattleStorm.

“Storm Boogie”
Stainless steel, paint
16’ x 10’ x 10’
2026
BECU Center for Basketball Performance
Seattle, WA

When we sketched initial ideas for the artwork, one particular concept jumped out at us as a powerful metaphor for play and teamwork. In our studio, we play a drawing game where one person draws a curving line in one color, the next person adds a line in a different color, and so on, until everyone decides the drawing is complete. This exercise is about paying attention, listening, and responding creatively – a lot like being part of a team. The winding lines resulting from the game draw a dance-like movement through the space, the way basketball players move, turn, and pass the ball across the court.

Thank you to the many teams who came together to make this happen:
@uapcompany managed production and facilitated design refinement.
@_bignew_ led the fabrication in stainless steel and paint in Los Angeles.
@nousla helped engineer the artwork’s structure and connections.
@sellen_construction led the installation in Seattle.
@aringstad documented the artwork through photography (Photos 1, 2, 3, 13).

🙏🏽 BIG thanks to ⚡️The Seattle Storm 🏀 team & community for working with us to bring this sculpture to life! ✨

Congratulations to @ba_collective on this unforgettable restoration of the only remaining commercial project by John Lautner.

It was one of the highlights of my career to spend two days photographing this project - resurrected from only a handful of reference photos taken by Julius Shulman. Years of misguided renovations had masked the original character; remnants of nail salons and plastic surgery offices were stripped away, and the project was expertly pieced back together with the utmost care by the project team.

Featured in this month's Interior Design Magazine.

Thank you Hagy, Jen, Devon, Brock, Krista, Michelle, Josh and everyone else for an unforgettable assignment!

Marquee : Benjamin Ball
@ball_nogues_studio

Located at 525 Mateo Street at the entrance to Alloy in The Los Angeles Arts District.
@alloyartsdistrict

This floating architectural sculpture is composed of hundreds of clear and colored acrylic spheres, suspended by cables from a stainless steel armature.

Marquee catches light the way old theater signs once caught attention: with shimmer, color, and a sense of occasion. At the threshold, the work transforms the entry into something more atmospheric and more theatrical—less a sign than a shifting field of shadows , glints, and passing color in the city.

I shared some of the Calexico installation process recently.

Now let’s look at some jigs

We shaped it through a combination of digitally controlled tube rolling and a changing landscape of custom jigs.

I remain a reluctant fabrication geek, but there is something beautiful about the way old problems keep returning: some of the oldest methods in fabrication for holding, aligning, spacing, correcting - continue to be essential even as new tools enable us to produce increasingly complex geometry.

The structures shown here existed only temporarily, disappearing once the tubes could hold themselves.

we had a great team on this including Plastal manufacturing @sparce_studio - custom software, and @nousla - structural
