SHOALHAVEN: Main Bathroom. A key challenge in this apartment renovation was that all plumbing points had to remain in their existing locations. This restriction meant that we couldn’t relocate toilets, sinks, or showers, even when we felt that an alternative layout might unlock greater spatial potential.

To address this limitation, we chose to emphasise the inherent strengths of each room. By extending the checkered tile motif (orginally seen in the Kitchen) throughout the spaces, we created a strong visual focus that draws the eye to the finishes rather than the fixed plumbing elements.

This approach helped transform a technical limitation into a cohesive design feature that unifies the apartment.

AI with clients in the design industry.

At our recent Brisbane Behind the Design event at @surfacegalleryaustralia , I asked @michael.drescher , Partner and Architect at @dko_architecture , how he’s navigating AI with clients in the current climate.

As AI becomes increasingly part of the design conversation, the challenge isn’t simply understanding the technology. It’s managing expectations, protecting the value of the design process and knowing where AI genuinely adds value.

A little snippet from a bigger conversation around what’s really happening behind the design.

Between supplier visits, event planning, interstate podcast recordings, client meetings and site visits, life as an interior designer can feel pretty full, but so incredibly fulfilling.

We’ve recently signed off on a few beautiful new projects across Sydney and the Central Coast, and we can’t wait to share more as they evolve.

A bathroom should do more than look beautiful - it should help you slow down at the end of the day and start the morning feeling refreshed🧼✨

Xav gives you a sneak peek behind the construction of our latest bathroom renovation, designed to feel like a private retreat at home.
Think a luxurious steam shower, a beautiful bathtub positioned beneath a skylight, and thoughtful details coming together behind the scenes to create a space you’ll actually look forward to spending time in.

Because the best bathrooms aren’t just renovated - they’re designed around how you want to live 🤍

An evening celebrating Behind the Design.

Last Friday, we welcomed architects, interior designers, builders and industry friends of Behind the Design to our Brisbane showroom for an evening centred on connection, conversation and the stories behind great design.

At the heart of the evening was a live panel hosted by @camillaingall, bringing together Michael Drescher of @dko_architecture Yvette Moulton of @rothelowman, and Darcy Kay of @cerastribley. Three voices from across the industry, sharing an open and candid look at what really happens behind the design — the collaboration, the decision-making, the challenges and the conversations that shape a project long before we see the finished result.

It was a room full of people who care deeply about design and the process behind it, and a fitting reminder of why @behindthedesignpod_ began in the first place: to create space for the conversations we don’t always get to hear.

Thank you to our co-hosts @est_lighting, @novas.au and @made_by_block for their valued collaboration.

This is just the beginning. More from the conversation to come
