A little insight into the deep devotion it requires to create art you truly care about. It’s been an honour to train alongside the talented @moth.artists- and have the opportunity to debut this show we’ve been working on at the glorious venue that is @spiegelhausmelb. (This show has been coming together for over a year by this crew- with me joining along the way as the newbie moth).

Despite some time in it now- I still feel SO new to the world of performance; especially diving into creating a solo & embracing burlesque… and it was the most humbling, challenging, exhilarating, and ultimately liberating experience. From creating the concept… to music, costuming/sewing, 10000 hours of bedazzling, choreography, lighting, technique, hair, makeup… and not to mention working through the many many layers of self-doubt and judgement that require breaking through, so you can be in full SASS and power on stage.

But when I say it comes from devotion, I mean it. This world fascinates me and lights me up in a way I struggle to explain.

I sometimes wonder if people (outside this world) really know what goes down to create art. What the audience sees is the final product- but not the endless dedication it requires, all the hours behind the scenes: driving hours extra each week for training, or squinting late into the night creating costumes. Yet, I would give this level effort time and time again- because when it comes from inner passion it’s not work, it’s devotion. And it feels like purpose to create art that seeks to offer something new & ignite power in the people watching.

I’m honoured to be here @moth.artists 🙏
If you came to support: THANK YOU 🥹🥂
And I can’t wait for more 😼🎪

☘️ Something new is quietly taking shape downstairs.

A little more refined. A little more unexpected. Still with that unmistakable Irish spirit.

Step through The Irish Times and discover a new space made for lingering a little longer, meeting friends, and settling into the evening.

Opening Thursday 24 September.

Come down. Have a look around. Stay awhile. ✨
