The stuff of footballing LEGEND 🧡👑 You don’t see loyalty like this these days!

Lions FC captain Shaun Carlos started his footballing journey with the club at age five.

Aside from one year spent with Brisbane Strikers in 2016, he’s been with the club his ENTIRE footballing career - a total of 26 years.

It’s a career that’s included:

🏃 230+ appearances for the club
🏆 15+ trophies across the NPL and Brisbane Premier League
🏆 6x NPL Queensland Championships
💯 Playing in every Lions’ game on the national stage games in the NPL era - Australia Cup, Championship and NPL National Finals

So when his side needed a late goal to secure their first ever Australian Championship win - having trailed 1-0 after 73 minutes - the scriptwriters knew exactly who should score it.

84 minutes on the clock: Up steps Mr. Lions FC himself to seal the club’s 6th comeback victory of season 2026.

The Queensland quadruple winners couldn’t have drawn it up any better 🙌

We would like to acknowledge Darren Zahra, who steps away from his role after six years as Strength & Conditioning Coach. Darren has been an integral part of our Men’s Senior program, making a significant contribution to the team’s development and many of its successes over the years and we wish him the best.

With that news we are delighted to welcome Amir Balagic as our new Strength & Conditioning Coach. Amir brings extensive experience in leading high-performance programs across both men’s and women’s football, including previous roles with Green Gully and Heidelberg. We look forward to welcoming Amir to the club and wish him every success in the role.

With 2027 marking the 80th anniversary of George Cross, the club looks forward to an exciting season ahead. We wish all coaches, staff and players the best.

It looks like 2026 will be the end of a special Aussie football story ❤️🇦🇺

In their 80th anniversary season, Adelaide City have been captained by club icon Nicholas Bucco.

Signed by the legendary Damian Mori in 2012, Bucco has been at the club ever since, racking up over 350 appearances over 15 seasons.

How fitting that he is the man to lead the black and white into their first campaign on the national stage in over two decades.

About to turn 37, it will almost certainly be his farewell to football, ending a special stint at one of Australia's most historic clubs.

🎙️ COACH THEO TALKS | CVETAN IVANOV

The Game Evolves. So Must We. ⚽

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Cvetan Ivanov, newly appointed Assistant Coach at Avondale FC.

After watching Cvetan coach, one thing that immediately stood out to me was the way he interacted with his players. His energy, personality and ability to connect with the group were fantastic to watch. You could see the genuine passion he has for the game.

I took the opportunity to ask him about his coaching journey, philosophy and approach to player development, and he shared some really valuable advice for coaches at all levels.

What I particularly enjoyed was his perspective on staying open-minded, continuing to learn and being willing to challenge your own coaching beliefs.

A great reminder that regardless of our experience or qualifications, there’s always room to improve.

A big thank you to Cvetan for taking the time to share his experiences and knowledge. Wishing him all the best in his new role at @avondalefc84
