The 2026 NSU RiverHawk Pre-Audition Junior High Choral Workshop was 🔥.

Over 200 student singers from 18 different schools!!!

These free, one-day workshops serve students from big and small schools and don't happen without the help of great colleagues like @nostrafrog , @moorealid , @lambert_yongjae_lee_ , and George Hilligoss.

Many thanks to the directors who also chipped in their expertise during sectionals and all who entrusted these young singers' voices and music preparation to us. I hope today was helpful and wish them all the best for their auditions. The University Singers were all big helpers on stage, in sectional rooms, with crowd control, and as building escorts. I can't wait to do it again in a couple of weeks with the high school singers!

I’m prepping music for next week’s recording session, and I thought I’d share some things about learning a lot of music in a relatively small window. This time, i’m lucky — I have just over a week and have planned in time to work on these tunes. One thing I did not mention is that regularly practicing things like listening, transcription, playing in all keys, sight reading, technique, and tone production all help because they cut down the time needed to learn a tune and how to improvise on the tune substantially. Did you enjoy this look into my process? Let me know! I’ll share more as I learn each of these tunes for next week (and beyond).

Very excited to announce this concert with Wayne Bergeron and the NSU Jazz Orchestra! If you’re not a trumpet player or a jazz musician, you may not know Wayne’s name, but you have definitely definitely heard him on hundreds of soundtracks, including the Incredibles, Toy Story 5, Zootopia, etc.

If you are a musician, then you probably understand the considerable excitement that is going around our campus right now, especially in the trumpet studio.

We have hosted the OkJE All State workshop for a few years now and it is always one of my favorite events of the year (aside from the Green Country Jazz Festival).

Thank you to Yamaha Music USA, Saied Music, and my colleagues in OkJE for their collaborative efforts to bring Wayne here. This is not to be missed!
