When @fredericmagazine came to photograph the house, we did not end up shooting this side of the living room, which sits adjacent to the kitchen. It is where @jtrundell spend the most time and where many treasures I have collected over the years have found a home—more on those below.

As @dara_caponigro and @griffincece asked about using our house to photograph @schumacher1889’s new Stars & Stripes collection, I immediately knew it would be fun to capture this end of the room dressed in the new fabrics. @maxkimbee turned his lens around, so to speak, and here we are.

Presiding over the group is “Spring Storm—Water Works I,” a framed lithograph by William Dunlap from 1986, improbably acquired from the estate of Jayne Wrightsman @stairgalleries. The moment I saw it, I was drawn in; it reminds me of the little houses on Mouse Island at the mouth of the Mystic River, which I sailed past throughout my childhood with my parents @sinsteden @nsinsteden.

Flanking it are a lamp from the collection of @mariobuatta and a plaster palm candlestick from my friend Lulu @soanebritain, which I had wired as a lamp and topped with an extraordinary shade by @lisalampshadelady. A collage painting by my dear friend @william.atkinson.art is propped behind them.

The coffee table was purchased at my mentor @charmossny’s 2013 @doylenewyork auction and later painted in blue faux bois by the brilliant @christianloewllc. @klagasse arranged the last of this spring’s daffodils in an oversized mug that once belonged to Mrs. Mellon @oakspringgardenfoundation.

Jansen slipper chairs are slipcovered in @milesredd’s “Painterly Windowpane,” recolored for this collection. My friend Nancy Stanley Waud @nswnancy made beautiful pillows in the new “Parson’s Stripe Hand Print,” while a French fruitwood armchair received a tailored slipcover in “Square in a Square.”

Elated that our recently redecorated guest bedroom is the star of @schumacher1889’s new All-American Style “Stars and Stripes” collection and featured on their homepage!

I only decorated the space—the genius behind these wonderful fabrics belongs entirely to @schumacher1889 and @milesredd.

Thank you to @dara_caponigro and @griffincece for inviting me to participate, to @maxkimbee for the beautiful photography, and to @klagasse for styling everything so brilliantly during his very first week on the job.

It was tremendous fun to pull together.

And now for the best part: the entire room was inspired by my son Everett’s fire truck book. Just look at the interior of that fire truck! 🚒

As summer begins in earnest, I am thinking back on such a fun party in 2021 that Jordan and I hosted in our then backyard 🌿🍸⛺️

As cocktail hour ended, the sky began to open up and the band moved to the front porch while the sixty of us huddled under the tent listening to music in the rain 🌧️🎶 After a passed first course of Senegalese soup, umbrellas were loaned out so everyone could make their way to the buffet line where JuneBug served Texas tenders, lentil salad, coleslaw, and endless baguette! 🥖

There were striped umbrellas, wet grass, glowing lamps, borrowed raincoats, too much wine, and so much laughter. A wonderful time was had by all!

Beautiful photos by my brilliant friend @readmckendree!

Our annual Christmas Eve tradition of raclette was just as wonderful as ever!

And in case you want to know what ChatGPT would say:
Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring—except hosts and spouse.
The table was dressed in the richest of reds,
With plates painted bold like peppermint threads.

Amaryllis stood proud in a cranberry glow,
While raclette lay ready to melt slow and slow.
Cornichons stood at attention, the apples sliced just so,
Cheese stacked with purpose, a luminous show.

Glasses stood waiting, the candles burned low,
Conversation and laughter began to bestow.
No fuss and no rush, just a feast meant to share,
A tradition well loved, and handled with care.

So we toasted to warmth, to family, to light,
To Christmas Eve magic that feels exactly right.
And with full hearts and plates, we whispered with delight:
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

Glorious shots by @readmckendree—photographer, confidant, and partner-in-crime—of a party at our former house. Swipe for all the magic he caught (and incontrovertible evidence that I “happen” to own enough tabletop for forty people 🤣).

Last weekend, @dappervan and @jjwhited were married. Over the course of three extraordinary days—between cinematic rain showers and golden bursts of sun—we gathered to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter, following a long and beautiful prologue.

David Van Fleet Bloys—known to me, affectionately, as Poodle—channeled every ounce of heart, taste, and artistry into creating a weekend that was both deeply personal and spectacular. From the intimate stone chapel beside his childhood school to a Polo Bar–Comes-to–Pennsylvania luncheon, every detail was rich with meaning and elegance.

The festivities unfolded like a storybook across the bucolic grounds of the Saucon Valley Country Club: a welcome party worthy of Town & Country; stationery executed flawlessly; tennis whites, Honey Deuces, and boxed lunches that made both players and spectators grin from ear to ear. Guests floated from one joyful moment to the next, culminating in a golden cocktail hour where black tie met silver trays and a jazz trio played as the sun dipped low.

That evening, by candlelight in the ballroom, the grooms spoke of love, partnership, and the legacy that made their union possible—and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. We danced with abandon until the floor nearly gave way, then carried on into the early hours at the Weyhill Guest House, feeling less like guests and more like family around a well-worn card table.

For all its beauty, what lingered most was the love between these two. Marriage is, without a doubt, the best club I’ve ever joined. Welcome to it, Joe & Poodle.

When a cookbook shows up at over 5 pounds, 2 inches thick and contains 640 recipes in it from soup to nuts, the question is Where to Start? Luckily, @katyconstantlycooking made this Gochujang Egg Salad last week so I took her direction and began there. As you know I’m an egg fan: hard boiled, rolled in an omelet, quiched, cracked over almost anything, so this was an easy bet for me. I was cautious with my gochujang as mine is pretty potent, so it doesn’t have the signature red of the bean paste, but my eggs were flavored nonetheless. Along with the Korean staple ingredient, there’s a little sesame oil, sesame seeds, kewpie mayo and scallions. I skipped the peas from the recipe. I am an adventurous eater and I do like to follow the recipe the first time I make it to glean the chef’s intention. But I draw the line at peas in my egg salad. I didn’t know there was a line. But there officially is now.

Thank you to @voraciousbooks for my preview copy of this definitive book, Milk Street 365 The All Purpose Cookbook for Every Day of the Year. What a resource. If you can’t find something to cook in this one, you are not trying. Joining Katy and the #milkstreetcookalong today.
