✨ What a thrill! Grateful to receive my first research funding — the Past Presidents Research Award — from the @txsha Foundation. 🤠 This funding supports our continued work on the effects of testosterone on voice in cisgender women that began as the seed to an idea in 2023, developed as my culminating project in Northwestern University’s clinical doctorate @nu_audslp program 💜, and is blazing forward into ongoing research efforts. Deeply appreciate the Houston Methodist @hmh_oto Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery Research Team and the @joshivoicelab for their support and collaboration to make this professional milestone possible. Thankful to the @txsha Foundation for this opportunity to center women’s health and voices. 🙏 I’m so passionate about the work ahead. 👩‍🔬

👏 Thank you to everyone in our community who joined us for last week’s free Hearing Screening! We couldn't have done it without our first- and second-year AuD students, supported by our wonderful CSD faculty and NUCASLL clinicians, providing the following to 48 participants: 👂 Hearing screenings 🎧 Hearing aid fitting & programming with demo devices 🔊 Virtual sound demonstrations in our ViSOR simulation room 💬 Counseling and individualized recommendations We were grateful for the chance to support our community while bringing awareness to the importance of hearing screenings and overall hearing health. Many participants also learned about ongoing research at CSD/NUCASLL and had the opportunity to join our Communication Research Registry. #NUCASLL #HearingHealth #Audiology #CommunityCare #Northwestern

Since February 2025, CSD’s audiology faculty and students have volunteered their time and expertise by hosting a free, walk-in NUCASLL hearing clinic at ReVive Center—an organization that provides housing, support, and care for Chicagoans affected by homelessness. Together, they’ve served 20 community members with ear cleanings, hearing tests, counseling, and fittings for five individuals receiving donated hearing aids for the first time. 💜👂 Through partnerships and programs like these, NUCASLL and CSD students continue giving back to the community while creating full-circle opportunities for care, education, and connection. #Audiology #CommunityCare #NUCASLL #HearingHealth #ServiceLearning #Northwestern Cover slide: ‘Hearing Care, Heartfelt Impact.’ CSD’s audiology faculty and students from NUCASLL volunteer to provide free hearing services at ReVive Center, connecting with the Chicago community. 🎉 We’re proud to share that earlier this fall Mariah Morton‑Jones, PhD, CCC‑SLP, Mancosh Postdoctoral Fellow at Northwestern CSD, was awarded an NIH R21 grant to advance voice science! Her research explores the intersection of exercise physiology and vocal function and addresses healthcare disparities affecting racially, ethnically, and linguistically diverse populations, as well as individuals in rural areas in need of specialized SLP care. This project will develop new outcome measures of vocal fitness and explore metabolic & physiological biomarkers of the aging voice. At Northwestern CSD, we’re proud to support our faculty and students being at the forefront of communication research, bridging science and clinical practice to improve lives. #SpeechLanguagePathology #VoiceScience #CommunicationResearch #Northwestern #NUCASLL #HealthEquity #AgingWell #ResearchImpact

📣 Research Spotlight! Thrilled to publicly share this scoping review published in The Laryngoscope (July issue)! 🗞️✨ This scoping review explores androgen supplementation and voice changes in cisgender women — a topic often overlooked in voice science and clinical care. It’s the first phase of a multi-phase research initiative from my culminating project for the SLPD program @nu_audslp at Northwestern University💜 aimed at deepening our understanding of hormonal influences on vocal function with interdisciplinary commitment in urology, gynecology, endocrinology, internal medicine, and the community. Grateful to lead author and former research fellow Heli Majeethia, senior author @dr.yinyiu and mentors for their support. Stay tuned for what’s next from Houston Methodist @hmh_oto @houstonmethodist @teresaprocter ! 💬🔬Here we come, informed health care decision-making.
