🚶🏾‍♂️🚶🏾‍♂️This Saturday’s stroll took me just off Broad St. around Lafayette Center. 🚶🏾‍♂️🚶🏾‍♂️🚶🏾‍♂️Beautiful brickwork, shaded courtyards, distinctive architecture and spaces that appear to be waiting for their next chapter. Looking at the quiet grounds and empty offices, I kept thinking imagine the activity that could live here? For those just getting acquainted with me, My name is Malcolm, owner of M7 Safety Solutions. I love anything art, traveling and story telling from “different perspectives”. My roots are from the northwest suburbs of Chicago and Baltimore. When I first arrived in Augusta in 2019, I immediately felt at home. I initially lived in Evans, which is beautiful in its own right, but I’ve always favored the rich historic areas of downtown Augusta and the surrounding neighborhoods. I want to be involved in helping this city thrive no doubt. Can you picture this space full of life? An art exhibit along the brick walkways. Local makers sharing their work. Businesses shops and boutiques. That’s where my mind went during this Saturday’s stroll around Lafayette Center, just off Broad St. The beauty is already here. So is the visible need for cleanup, maintenance and renewed activity. What would it take to make spaces like this welcoming places for artists, entrepreneurs, residents and visitors? Could property owners, the city, local businesses and community organizations work together on a practical starting point? Augusta has beautiful, underused places throughout the entire city. Bringing them back into everyday use could create opportunities for the people who already give this community its character. I want to see wise investments, clean surroundings, a thriving arts community and local businesses sharing in the growth. What would you come here to experience? Augusta is way more than one street and one event. The potential is phenomenal. “The hidden gem.” 💎 #saturdaystrolls #hiddengem #Augusta #communitydevelopment
